Join a team where your expertise drives diagnosis, innovation, and teaching. As a key member of our clinical laboratory, in collaboration with the Clinical Manager, you will plan, develop, organize, and coordinate the operation of the Rapid Response Unit during off shifts to contribute to meeting the SPHS mission, as well as federal, state, and professional and / or accrediting agencies. Coordinates the assigned clinical laboratory section activities.
Participates in Human Resource issues involving scheduling staff and maintaining lines of communication with other managers, staff and clients. Accurately performs and reports a wide range of routine and complex analyses in order to provide data which will assist the physician in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
What You Will Do:
  • Responsible for coordinating operations in Rapid Response Unit on 2nd and 3rd shifts and providing quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and professional standards. Establishes priorities in the work setting, providing for optimal patient outcome.
  • Performs automated and manual assays on a variety of clinical specimens to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
  • Correlates test results, reports results accurately and calls STATS, criticals or abnormals according to established procedures.
  • Performs and evaluates quality control and quality assurance procedures as outlined in manuals in order to ensure accurate and appropriate test results and services.
  • Coordinates effective Human Resource management within department / section to achieve quality services and positive colleague relations. Oversees staffing, scheduling and assists in resolving complex colleague relations problems with input from manager.
  • Gathers information on and investigates patient and colleague incidents. Prepares reports reflecting findings for supervisor, appropriate hospital departments and / or agencies.
  • Communicates within department / section as well as across departments to ensure that information is shared for effective operations. Develops and maintains cooperative working relationships with physicians and various patient care departmental personnel in order to gather and exchange patient information, resolve problems and improve services provided. Participates in proficiency testing and maintains competency associated with the profession of Medical Technology. Follows confidentiality protocols.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology; or closely related field and 3 to 5 years of previous and progressively more responsible work-related experience plus 3 to 6 months of on-the-job training and orientation.
  • Certified as an MT or MLT (ASCP) or equivalent
  • Skills Required: Work requires the analytical ability necessary to resolve problems requiring a professional level of knowledge in chemistry and hematology processing, marketing and human resource systems and programs.
  • Work requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, which includes, assigning and distributing work, assisting in performance reviews, enforcing policies and counseling colleagues. Writes detailed reports and proposals for review by management.
  • Possesses visual acuity and be able to discriminate color reactions and perform other microscopic analysis. Must possess sufficient motor skills in order to perform delicate tasks such as: calibration and maintenance of laboratory instruments; perform precise sample procedures, pipetting of samples and use of computer workstations.

Position Hours:
32 hours, Evening Shifts, every 4th weekend; holiday rotation

Pay Range: $30.10 - $48.15
Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
