Become part of Something big with Extreme! As a global networking leader, learn why there’s no better time to join the Extreme team.

Position Summary

The Associate Test Engineer is an early-career role on the Manufacturing & Test Engineering team, supporting production test for Extreme Networks' switching, routing, wireless, and cloud appliance products. Working under the mentorship of senior test engineers, you will help develop, qualify, and sustain functional and system-level test stations, debug test failures on the production floor, and contribute to yield and quality improvements at our ODM partners. This is a hands-on role that blends hardware, software, and data — an excellent launching point for a career in test, manufacturing, or hardware engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support development, bring-up, and qualification of production test fixtures and test stations (ICT, FCT, SLT) under the guidance of senior test engineers.
  • Write, debug, and maintain test scripts and station code in Python, LabVIEW, TestStand, or in-house frameworks.
  • Participate in NPI builds (EVT/DVT/PVT) — running test routines, capturing data, and documenting issues for resolution.
  • Debug failing units on the production line and in the test lab using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, network analyzers, and protocol-specific tools.
  • Help define and maintain test coverage documentation, work instructions, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Pull and analyze production test data to identify yield issues, false calls, and recurring failure modes; present findings clearly to the engineering team.
  • Support fixture builds, calibration, and station deployment to global ODM sites; troubleshoot remotely and occasionally on-site.
  • Assist with ECO/MCO impact assessment from a test perspective and update test programs accordingly.
  • Track and close action items from 8D investigations, FA reports, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, ESD-controlled work environment and follow all lab and production safety procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer, or related Engineering discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience, including internships, co-ops, or capstone projects in test, hardware, or manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of digital and analog electronics fundamentals (signals, power, basic communication buses such as I2C/SPI/UART).
  • Hands-on lab experience with oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and basic network test tools.
  • Programming proficiency in at least one of: Python, C/C++, LabVIEW, or TestStand.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to clearly document procedures and findings.
  • Curiosity, ownership mindset, and willingness to spend time on the production floor and in the test lab.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework or project experience with networking protocols (Ethernet, TCP/IP, Wi-Fi).
  • Exposure to ICT, flying probe, boundary scan (JTAG), or system-level test concepts.
  • Familiarity with version control (Git), Linux command line, and basic data analytics (Pandas, Power BI, JMP, or Minitab).
  • Awareness of Lean / Six Sigma concepts and structured problem solving (8D, 5-Why, fishbone).
  • Experience with electrical CAD review, PCB bring-up, or fixture mechanical design.
  • Core Competencies
  • Curiosity — eager to dig into problems, ask questions, and learn how things really work.
  • Ownership — follows through on commitments and takes pride in the quality of test outcomes.
  • Collaboration — partners well with senior engineers, technicians, and CM counterparts.
  • Communication — clear, concise, and honest about what is and isn't working.
  • Bias for the floor — comfortable splitting time between desk, lab, and production line.
  • Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Hybrid office environment with regular time on the production floor and in the test lab.
  • Occasional domestic and international travel (up to 10%) to CM/EMS sites for fixture deployment and debug.
