Job Title: Laboratory Support Associate
Job Location: Waltham, Massachusetts 02451
Pay Rate: $28
Shift: Mon - Fri (7am-3:30pm)
Duration: 2 months

Position Summary

The Laboratory Support Associate is responsible for supporting day-to-day laboratory operations through effective inventory management, material handling, and lab support services. This role ensures availability of consumables, maintains critical supply systems, and may support glassware washing, autoclaving, and storage processes. The coordinator also manages ordering, tracks inventory metrics, and maintains safe handling of cryogenic and compressed gas supplies.


Key Responsibilities


Laboratory Support Operations

  • Perform and support glass wash operations, including collection, cleaning, drying, and redistribution of labware
  • Operate and maintain autoclaves, ensuring proper sterilization cycles and documentation
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of lab support areas (glass wash, storage, staging areas)
  • Ensure lab consumables are stocked, organized, and readily accessible in designated lab areas
  • Fulfills media requests per work instructions and customers specifications
  • Supports reagent pick up, receiving and delivery services


Inventory Management

  • Manage in-lab inventory of consumables (e.g., solvents, pipette tips, tubes, PPE)
  • Monitor inventory levels and implement replenishment strategies to prevent stockouts
  • Maintain accurate inventory records using inventory management systems or tracking logs
  • Conduct regular cycle counts and audits to ensure inventory accuracy


Ordering & Procurement

  • Create and manage purchase orders for lab supplies and consumables
  • Track orders from placement through delivery, ensuring timely receipt
  • Follow up on outstanding or delayed orders with vendors and internal stakeholders
  • Coordinate with suppliers to ensure accurate and compliant deliveries


Supply & Material Management

  • Manage liquid nitrogen (LN2) tanks, including monitoring levels, refilling coordination, and safe handling
  • Maintain inventory and storage of compressed gas cylinders, ensuring compliance with safety regulations
  • Oversee dry ice procurement, storage, and distribution to lab users
  • Ensure proper labeling, handling, and storage practices for all materials


Metrics & Reporting

  • Track and report key metrics, including:
    • Inventory levels and usage trends
    • Order fulfillment timelines
    • Stockout frequency
    • Vendor performance
  • Develop and maintain dashboards or reports to support operational decision-making
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost optimization


Safety & Compliance

  • Follow and enforce all lab safety protocols related to chemical handling, cryogenics, and compressed gases
  • Maintain compliance with applicable safety and regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA, institutional guidelines)
  • Participate in safety audits and training as required


Qualifications


Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in laboratory support, inventory, or operations role
  • Experience with inventory management systems and procurement processes
  • Ability to handle physical tasks (lifting, moving cylinders, stocking supplies)
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills


Preferred

  • Experience in biotech, pharmaceutical, or research laboratory environment
  • Familiarity with autoclaves, glass wash systems, and cryogenic materials (LN2)
  • Knowledge of lab safety regulations and GMP practices
