Job Title: Lab / Engineering Technician (RF Lab Support)
Location: San Diego, California
Contract Duration: 4 months with the possibility for extension
Schedule: Onsite
Pay Rate: $55-60 per hour
Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Lab / Engineering Technician to support RF engineering activities, laboratory operations, and test infrastructure setup. This role requires experience working in an RF lab environment, building and maintaining test setups, supporting rack assembly, performing PCB rework on fine-pitch components, and ensuring overall lab organization and readiness. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working with RF equipment, electronics hardware, and laboratory inventory.
Key Responsibilities
  • Build and configure RF test setups according to engineering specifications, schematics, and written instructions.
  • Operate, connect, and troubleshoot RF laboratory equipment to support engineering testing and validation activities.
  • Support rack assembly, cable routing, equipment installation, and hardware integration based on documented procedures.
  • Perform soldering and rework on existing circuit boards, including work with 0201 surface-mount components and RF-related hardware.
  • Assist engineers with hardware testing, setup modifications, and lab experiments.
  • Maintain laboratory organization, cleanliness, and equipment readiness.
  • Manage lab inventory, including tracking, organizing, storing, and moving equipment, cables, soldering stations, and test fixtures.
  • Handle and transport laboratory hardware and equipment, including occasional lifting of heavier test instruments and machinery.
  • Ensure lab safety procedures and best practices are followed at all times.
  • Provide general laboratory support as needed to enable efficient engineering operations.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience working in an RF laboratory environment.
  • Hands-on experience with RF test equipment and test setup configuration.
  • Proficiency in soldering, rework, and repair of electronic circuit boards, including 0201 components.
  • Experience assembling racks, installing equipment, and managing cable organization.
  • Strong understanding of electronic hardware, components, and laboratory practices.
  • Ability to follow technical instructions, engineering documentation, and setup procedures accurately.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage lab inventory and equipment.
  • Ability to lift and move laboratory equipment and materials as required.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, RF Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting wireless, telecommunications, networking, or RF validation labs.
  • Familiarity with RF measurements, antenna testing, signal analysis, or wireless communication technologies.
  • Experience using test instrumentation such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators, network analyzers, power meters, or oscilloscopes.
