E&TI is looking for a high performing, collaborative Electromagnetic Effects Lab Technician to join our Electromagnetics Effects (EME) team in North Charleston, SC.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including: Experienced and Senior level Electromagnetic Effects Lab Technicians.

This role will be centered around performing and optimizing testing in our Composite Characterization Lab which evaluates material performance with respect to Lightning Direct Effects. Successful candidates will streamline testing processes and innovate test methods which can be reproduced across the Boeing Company and with our customers.

We are seeking a lab technician who shares a passion for experimentation and testing related to electrical engineering and advanced material physics the aerospace industry.
Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform all laboratory testing (including high voltage lightning pulser testing) and test planning to characterize electromagnetic properties and failure modes of designs with respect to EME, Lightning Direct Effects, and Lightning Indirect Effects

  • Maintain Lab testing schedule and provide recommendations to management on necessary resources for testing.

  • Conduct tests to validate system performance.

  • Conduct complex tests and document results; participate in test readiness reviews.

  • Design, build, and modify test fixtures for lightning direct effects testing.

  • Maintain lab equipment calibration and maintenance.

  • Support parts procurement and interface with supply chain to maintain lab equipment necessary for scheduled testing.

  • Collaborate with internal and external shipping partners to transfer and receive parts, tools, and materials.

  • Collaborate across diverse teams and support in-house fabrication of test panels.

  • Assist in the development and design of electromagnetic tests to characterize material and physical properties.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex laboratory and test-related problems

  • Coordinate laboratory test activities, maintenance and repairs, and personnel training.

  • Coach and train other in safe testing operations.

  • Work under minimal direction.

 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited course of study in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry

  • 3+ years of experience in an Electrical/Electronic laboratory test environment

  • 3+ years of experience with testing and troubleshooting of electronics and Electrical systems

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of high voltage systems (>1000 Volts).

  • Experience in research environment.

  • 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or material science.

  • Knowledge Electromagnetic principles

  • Experience with machining methods and tools.

  • Adept at working amongst diverse teams.

  • Experience with laboratory test planning and execution

  • Experience working with supply chain to procure tools, parts, and materials

  • Lean Six Sigma Experience

  • Experience in leading safety training and maintaining qualifications of a team.
