Job description

At Solar Atmospheres we are a leading heat-treating facility specializing in high-performance thermal processing for the aerospace, medical, automotive, and other commercial manufacturing industries. We pride ourselves on precision, quick turnaround times, and uncompromised quality. The sampling and testing of the metals we heat treat for customers is an essential part of their satisfaction and compliance. Join our team as a Metallography Lab Tech at Solar's Greenville, SC site. This role will work Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 7am - 7:30pm.

What you'll do:
Under the guidance of our Operations and Quality Teams, the Metallography Lab Tech, will test products, evaluate findings, and produce reports that validate our processing. Prior experience within a lab is a plus, but we will also provide on-the-job training for the responsibilities of the role. Day-to-day, you can expect the following:

Sample Preparation: Utilize various equipment to cut, mount, and polish specimens, as needed.
Testing: Conduct routine hardness testing on customer parts and specimens.
Data Verification: Review requirements on shop orders and use software packages provided to log results and provide detailed test reports.
Non-Conformance Tracking: Identify parts that do not meet requirements and communicate findings immediately to the Quality team.
Teamwork: Collaborate with operations and quality teams to help meet customer requirements and deadlines.
Lab Organization: Adhere to lab cleanliness and safety policies.
Maintenance: Operate and troubleshoot lab equipment, as needed.

What you need to thrive in this role:
Have general computer literacy.
Be reliable and organized with attention to detail.
Be able to multitask and prioritize.
Be able to lift up to 60 lbs, bend, reach, and sit or stand for extended periods of time
An associate's degree or certificate in Metallurgy, a plus!
Prior lab experience, a plus!
Prior heat-treating experience, a plus!
Prior familiarity with common metallography and hardness testing specifications (e.g. ASTM E18, E10, E384, etc....), a plus!
