Job description

The Lab Assistant assists the Medical Technologists with the daily operations of the laboratory. Responsibilities include but are not be limited to:
  • Receiving specimens for processing and log into the system.
  • Interacting with the Client Services Department as required to ensure correct sample information.
  • Helping prepare the specimen and setting up supplies as needed for processing.
  • Helping maintain inventory.
  • Cleaning, disinfecting and maintaining the receiving area and equipment as well as collect, sterilize and wash equipment and supplies from the lab.
  • Safely handling biohazard waste for disposal.
  • Preparing samples to be sent out for reference testing as required.
  • Assisting with maintenance of the record storage system.
  • Working on special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science or Associate's degree with equivalent work experience
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the laboratory field
