Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Lab Assistant, you will play a crucial role in solving diagnostic mysteries, bringing us one step closer to effectively treating patient illnesses and injuries.

Every day, you will utilize your expertise and our advanced technology to precisely collect, prepare, and process a diverse range of patient specimens (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) for various diagnostic tests.

To be successful in this role, you will possess a foundational understanding of laboratory procedures, demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, and maintain an eager commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Responsibilities: 

  • The lab assistant must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care relative to the patient's age-specific needs.
  • This lab assistant will play a critical role in the Emergency Room schedule
  • Assist with specimen processing, including labeling, centrifuging, and aliquoting.
  • Prepare reagents and solutions according to established protocols.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies to ensure cleanliness and proper functioning.
  • Perform routine lab tasks such as washing glassware, sterilizing instruments, and preparing culture media.
  • Assist with data entry and record-keeping, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Assist with other tasks as assigned by the laboratory supervisor.
  • Will be required to work in the Emergency Room

This position is represented by SEIU-UHW and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Job Requirements

Required:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • California Phlebotomy Technician License (CA PHLEB Lic)
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certification (AHA BLS)
  • Fire Safety Card required (must obtain 90 days from hire date) 

Preferred: 

  • Lab Assistant Program certification, Phlebotomy program certificate
  • Six months of experience in an acute care facility
