What You Will Do:

Perform phlebotomy, specimen processing, and pre-analytic laboratory operations to support accurate diagnostic testing while ensuring patient safety, regulatory compliance, and exceptional service.

Essential Job Functions:

- Collects blood and specimens following departmental protocol; verifies patient identity and accurately labels specimens.

- Performs venipuncture or skin puncture and delivers specimens to the laboratory timely.

- Maintains clean, organized phlebotomy trays and properly disposes of contaminated materials.

- Accessions specimens in the Laboratory Information System and prepares samples for testing (centrifugation, send-outs, etc.).

- Communicates with ordering providers to clarify test orders.

- Demonstrates strong knowledge of phlebotomy principles, specimen integrity, anticoagulants, and blood components.

- Practices proper safety procedures, including aseptic technique, OSHA compliance, and biohazard handling.

- Uses proper PPE and follows BRGMC safety and infection control protocols.

- Ensures accurate patient identification for all collections and specimens.

- Maintains low recollection and contamination rates consistent with departmental benchmarks.

- Participates in staff training, competency assessments, and pre-analytic workflow support.

- Performs waived testing following QC requirements and documents results accurately.

- Provides excellent customer service, greeting patients professionally and ensuring specimen logs are accurate.

- Performs other duties as assigned.
