Job Summary
The Lab Assistant will provide assistance with oversight of the cosmetology lab to include the supervision of students, organization of the lab, and maintaining supply/equipment inventory. In addition, the Lab Assistant will provide assistance in class when needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Certified as a Cosmetology Operator in good standing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
  • Two years of experience in the cosmetology field
  • Data entry skills
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and use a telephone
  • Knowledge of computer and general cosmetology-related equipment
  • Proficient in (TDLR) rules and regulations
  • Evidence of ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population, both orally and in writing
  • Evidence of ability to work effectively as a member of the Cosmetology team

Preferred Qualifications
Essential Functions
  • Supervise all students while they are performing client services
  • Maintain organization within the lab
  • Supervise students in community-related activities/field trips associated with cosmetology instruction
  • Assist with maintaining cosmetology supply/equipment inventory
  • Attend staff meetings and other meetings as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • The person in this position needs to move from office to classroom frequently
  • Use of manual dexterity; use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls; use one or two hands to grasp, move, or assemble objects; use fingers to grasp, move, or assemble very small objects
  • Must be able to bend, reach overhead, and lift/move up to 20 pounds
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
  • The ability to see details of objects that are at a close range and see differences between colors, shades, and brightness
  • Indoor laboratory setting with cosmetology chemicals present; noisy environment
  • Employee will come in direct contact with employees, students and the public
