The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony represents descendants of three Great Basin Indigenous peoples: the **Numu (Northern Paiute)**, **Newe (Western Shoshone)**, and **Washeshu (Washoe)**. Your role as a Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist
As a Full-Time Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist with the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, you will be responsible for executing essential laboratory tasks related to drawing whole blood and blood components. Your expertise in phlebotomy will be critical as you ensure accurate and efficient blood collection, contributing directly to patient care and diagnostic processes. Would you be a great Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist ?
To excel as a Full-Time Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, candidates must possess a diverse skill set that ensures both efficiency and accuracy in laboratory operations. Essential skills include the ability to conduct patient interviews, draw blood samples, and perform various in-house lab tests such as finger-stick blood tests and Rapid Strep Screens. Proficiency in using laboratory software, including the RSTHC laboratory package, is required for updating test results and managing data entry effectively.
A strong sense of organization is necessary for maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies, as well as performing clerical duties like ordering supplies and printing reports. Successful candidates should also have excellent customer service skills to communicate effectively with patients while adhering to confidentiality standards. Independence, critical thinking, and the ability to analyze situations will further enhance your contributions to a collaborative environment dedicated to community health.
Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
  • Conducts patient interviews, draws blood samples, performs in-house lab testing services: finger-stick blood tests, tests dip stick urine samples, urine HCG and Rapid Strep Screen.
  • Centrifuges whole blood to produce various components for testing.
  • Observes thermostats on storage units to confirm that temperature remains constant and within prescribed guidelines.
  • Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment, supplies and laboratory. Test reagents and maintain equipment logs.
  • Performs related clerical duties, orders supplies, statistical records and printing reports.
  • Update test information as needed; enter into the computer in-house results; fax results to outside providers.
  • Must have confirmed ability to use computers efficiently and learn the RSTHC laboratory package.
  • Ability to analyze situations accurately and take effective action.
  • Must be able to work independently, self-starter individual.
  • Must adhere to the RSIC attendance and punctuality policies.
  • Must be able to work with the Quest Laboratories and attend trainings when available.
  • Ensure the laboratory CUA license is current and updated every two years.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must have a high school diploma or a GED.
  • Certification as Phlebotomist/Laboratory Assistant.
  • Must maintain patient confidentiality on all patients in accordance with Tribal and Federal laws.
  • Must be able to work in a diverse minority environment
  • Must have at least one-year experience working in an outpatient laboratory or doctor's office.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of walking, standing and some
  • lifting in the performance of the laboratory duties.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and CPR certification.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to use the computer and type.
  • Must pass a recent TB test
