Job description

The Operations Manager is responsible for the overall performance of Manufacturing and Service in the Value Stream (and all departments within the Value Stream), including Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, Training, Morale, and Continuous Improvement. This position interfaces with Sales, Engineering, Customer Service, Production Planning, Information Technology, Purchasing, and Human Resources in support of Price Industries' efforts to become a World-Class Manufacturer.

Responsible for designing, developing, and leading all Value Analysis activities across the organization. Work within a defined organizational committee structure to identify, develop, and coordinate strategies for process improvement and cost savings opportunities related to improved product, technology, service, and process standardization and utilization to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered, cost-effective care, results-oriented project outcomes, and value analysis best practices. 

Responsible for leading and on-going facilitation of system wide value-analysis processes and structures. Supports improvement of Supply Chain oversight of product review, evaluation, selection and implementation process. Communicating analysis to all key stakeholders and reporting on various metrics relating to measure of success of the decisions utilizing the value analysis processes.  .

Responsibilities

  • Owner of the Value Stream(s) he/she manages and all the departments within it

  • Efficiency and Utilization (i.e. Productivity) of the Value Stream

  • Quality of the products built and effective resolution of quality issues

  • Process and product flow through the Value Stream

  • On-time delivery and recovery planning to mitigate missed deliveries

  • Budgeting, controlling costs within budget and cost reduction within area

  • Responsible, in part, for the Gross Margin of the Value Stream and directly responsible for the Labour Cost of Sales (LCOS)

  • Process standardization, process improvement and overall continuous improvement Projects and Objectives and managing Value Stream Improvement activities

  • Capacity / Manpower Planning and effective staffing

  • Ensuring that product acceptance criteria is clearly understood

  • Safety within the Value Stream, the implementation of safety programs and the identification of safety concerns and coordination of safety corrective action (eg. Guarding)

  • Responsible for maintaining and publishing performance Metrics

  • Act as a mentor for Supervisors and support them with discipline, interdepartmental communication, and other items when necessary coupled with knowledge and adherence to the Collective Bargaining Agreement

  • Represent the Value Stream as necessary at meetings, briefings, etc

  • Interface with the customer, when called upon by Sales and Customer Service personnel

  • Working with Sales, Engineering and customer on the development and introduction of new products in production

  • Responsible for morale and conveying a positive identity and pride within the Value Stream

  • Create a work environment conducive to employee morale, motivation, growth and teamwork to accomplish performance objectives

  • Each Value Stream Manager is challenged to find innovative ways to improve productivity and reduce cost. The Value Stream Manager must have control of costs within their Value Stream. Each Value Stream Manager is accountable for the budget within their Value Stream and will negotiate services with the Support Groups (i.e. Manufacturing Engineering, Design Engineering, etc.) in order to achieve cost reduction objectives.

  • Identifies opportunities, select, supports, schedules and manages initiatives that improve the processes, accountability, and management for safety, quality and cost of supply chain. Evaluates project progress and results, reporting out to key stakeholders on metrics as appropriate. Recommends changes to achieve improvements. Facilitates Value Analysis Teams (VATs).

  • Establishes collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders to effectively implement approved initiatives.

  • Coordinates and assists in the development of initiatives involving products, equipment, product evaluations, implementations and purchased services.

  • Develops measurement processes to manage consumption, track cost savings, cost avoidance and lost opportunities categories.

  • Researches best demonstrated practices, investigates new or alternate products, equipment and services based on input from key stakeholders, observations, product issues, costs, suppliers and other resources.

  • Reviews and identifies trends in product utilization/consumption, identify opportunities for improvement, reports findings and make recommendations which will result measurable positive outcomes and supports established goals for stewardship of resources.

  • Serves as point of contact for issues that relate to assessment, analysis, coordination, implementation and reporting programs and service offerings or necessary technology applications and equipment which support these efforts

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree Engineering (Mechanical or Industrial), Supply Chain, or Business is preferred.

  • Minimum 5 years managing production in discrete manufacturing process or VA experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years of supervision with a proven track record in a high volume, multi-product environment.

  • Must have experience leading implementation of Lean Manufacturing. Must have experience in implementation MRP systems.

  • Verifiable success in the management of people and processes.

  • Training and experience in Lean Manufacturing.

  • Self starter with strong initiative and able to work with minimum supervision.

  • Ability to achieve desired results by working with and through others.

  • Thrive in a work environment where teamwork, accountability and innovative thinking are highly valued.

  • Ability to achieve desired results by motivating Associates to want to meet goals.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize effective communication strategies; able to implement, drive business successful business outcomes, and work effectively with all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrable leadership and leadership development experience in large, complex manufacturing organizations.

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Demonstrated experience in change management, development and execution of projects, quality management, process analysis, problem solving and team building is required.

  • Experience effectively working with a wide variety of key stakeholders resulting in positive project outcomes is required.

  • Facilitation experience required.

Knowledge of process engineering, supporting technologies and emerging trends in process design and applications is required.

  • Proficient in MS Office applications.

  • Experience in a union environment is preferred.

  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics.

  • Proven ability to drive improvement in a product line through leading design changes and process improvement.

  • Six Sigma Greenbelt/Lean a plus
