Description:

Agri-Cycle is New England's largest and fastest growing food waste collection company; we are experiencing exponential growth year-after-year and provide an essential service for the entire Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Our process utilizes organic waste to create renewable energy through local anaerobic digestors.

The Compost Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the composting operation, including sourcing amendments, receiving and processing incoming organic material, and managing day-to-day site activities. This role is accountable for monitoring and documenting key pile metrics, ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining equipment and facilities, and representing the organization at community outreach events.


This is a full-time, on-site position. Occasional weekend availability may be required for community events and operational needs.

Requirements:

Primary Responsibilities

Production & Operations
Oversee all material logistics, including sourcing amendments, feedstock reception, recipe mixing, management of Aerated Static Pile (ASP) process, windrow turning, screening, and testing to ensure efficient and consistent production output.

Quality Control, Record Keeping, & Product Sales
Monitor, record, and analyze key pile metrics to maintain product quality and ensure finished compost meets established market specifications. Responsible for cultivating customers for the finished product.

Regulatory Compliance
Ensure the facility operates in full compliance with applicable local, state, and federal environmental regulations, including odor management, stormwater controls, and leachate mitigation.

Equipment & Facility Maintenance
Maintain site cleanliness and equipment readiness through adherence to daily operational checklists and proactive preventive maintenance practices.

Community Relations & Outreach
Cultivate and sustain relationships with the GUVSWD Board, local stakeholders, and amendment suppliers. Actively participate in on-site community programming, including free compost distribution days, school group tours, and educational outreach initiatives.

Collaboration & Leadership
Partner with the Terminal Manager to improve site activities and operational efficiencies. Provide support across other areas of the operation as needed. This position reports to the General Manager or Compost Division Lead.


Required Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of hands-on composting experience, with demonstrated involvement in leading or contributing to site operations
  • Proficiency operating heavy equipment, including loaders and skid steers
  • Current knowledge of industry trends, best practices, and regulatory developments
  • Proven ability to build and maintain partnerships with municipal agencies and local organizations
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage and educate community partners, including farmers and retailers
  • Ability to travel to local industry events and conferences as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a certified commercial composting course or equivalent training program
  • Degree or certification in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related field
  • CDL-B license
