Job Overview

As the Operations Manager, under the direction of the General Manager, is responsible for overseeing daily operational performance related to transportation and fleet operations. This role provides leadership and direction to drivers and mechanics to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable service.

The Operations Manager supports operational planning, coordinates service execution, monitors performance metrics, and ensures compliance with company policies, DOT regulations, and safety standards. This position works closely with the General Manager to drive operational efficiency, support fleet utilization and maintenance coordination, and ensure consistent service performance.

The Operations Manager plays a key role in maintaining a strong safety culture, supporting workforce development, and identifying opportunities to improve operational processes, productivity, and customer service across the Chicago operation.

What You’ll Do
  • Oversee daily transportation operations to ensure safe, efficient, and timely service delivery.
  • Provide leadership and direction to drivers and mechanics to support operational performance and accountability.
  • Coordinate scheduling, route execution, and operational coverage to meet customer service expectations.
  • Monitor operational performance metrics, including productivity, service levels, safety performance, and fleet utilization.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, DOT regulations, and safety standards.
  • Work closely with fleet maintenance personnel to ensure vehicles and equipment are properly maintained and operational.
  • Identify operational challenges and implement solutions that improve efficiency, reliability, and service quality.
  • Assist in workforce planning, including recruiting, onboarding, training, and development of operational staff.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and performance management to employees to support team development and accountability.
  • Support operational planning, budgeting, and cost control initiatives.
  • Review operational reports and performance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Promote and reinforce a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to all safety procedures.
  • Collaborate with leadership and internal teams to support operational goals and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain strong relationships with employees, leadership, and customers to support operational success.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position supervises operational employees, including drivers and mechanics, supporting the Jacksonville location. The Operations Manager is responsible for employee scheduling, training, coaching, performance management, and assisting with hiring decisions in partnership with the General Manager and Human Resources.

Certifications

  • Valid driver’s license required
  • OSHA safety training preferred
  • First Aid/CPR certification preferred
  • CDL preferred but not required

  • 5+ years of operations, transportation, logistics, or service-based management experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The work environment may include exposure to outdoor conditions, moving vehicles, noise, and odors typical of operational and fleet environments. Appropriate safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when entering operational areas.
