Position Purpose

Own Building Automation & Controls projects from opportunity evaluation through project closeout. Bid, estimate, and support design of controls systems and plan, direct, and coordinate project activities to ensure goals and objectives of project within established schedules and budgets. 

Position Responsibilities

  • Estimating Responsibilities (Approx. 50%)
    • Support the BAC Account Manager in evaluating project leads by meeting with customers, gathering project information, and assessing requirements alongside company capabilities and capacity.
    • Prepare proposals, participate in technical presentations, and support overall sales efforts.
    • Actively manage and track the opportunity pipeline using the CRM system.
    • Estimate controls system installations and retrofit projects, including materials and labor.
    • Support the design of Building Automation & Controls systems, including KMC, Niagara, Carrier, and Bassett4Sight.
    • Assist in developing sequences of operations, wiring diagrams, flow charts, point lists, and system specifications for controls projects.
    • Provide technical guidance to construction project engineers and managers on controls systems.
  • Project Management Responsibilities (Approx. 50%)
    • Plan, coordinate, and manage projects from award through closeout, including schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and equipment procurement timelines.
    • Coordinate field personnel, subcontractors, and commissioning activities to meet project objectives.
    • Monitor project progress, labor, costs, and profitability; adjust plans as needed and manage change orders.
    • Support cash flow management by coordinating billings in collaboration with the accounting team.
    • Prepare and manage all project documentation, including O&M manuals, delivery schedules, labor tracking, and closeout documents.
    • Serve as the primary customer point of contact, maintaining strong relationships, leading or participating in meetings, and ensuring expectations are met.
  • Follow all ISO procedures as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Attend weekly Building Automation & Controls Department meetings to review current and future opportunities.
  • Support and maintain a safe and Lean working environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Summary of Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, HVAC Technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience in controls system estimating, sales, and design will also be considered.
  • Technical knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC controls is a plus.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in technical sales; prior sales experience is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Familiarity with construction project management documentation, including RFIs and change orders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare letters and proposals.
  • Strong organizational and pre-planning skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
