Job description

Job Title: Dishwasher
Department: Food & Beverage
Reports to: Executive Chef or Executive Sous Chef
Pay: $16.00 per hour
Status: Part-Time (Flexible schedule; frequent evening, weekend, and holiday work required based on event needs)
The Jekyll Island Convention Center has an immediate opening for a part-time Dishwasher. The dish and general utility position is responsible for maintaining strict cleanliness and sanitation standards for china, glassware, tableware, and cooking utensils using both machine and manual cleaning methods. This role ensures the dishwashing area and kitchen environment remain clean, safe, and sanitary.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Dishwashing & Sanitation:
    • Sort, rinse, and rack dirty dishes, glassware, tableware, and cooking utensils to send through the dish machine.
    • Wash pots, pans, and trays by hand.
    • Sort, stack, and return clean items to the cook's line and designated storage areas.
    • Inspect dishes for cleanliness and rewash soiled items before delivering.
  • Station Maintenance & Setup:
    • Assemble and disassemble the dish machine as needed.
    • Set up and break down the dishwashing area at the start and end of shifts.
    • Fill and empty soak tubs with proper cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
    • Monitor dish machine wash/rinse cycle temperatures and immediately notify management if temperatures fall below safety standards.
  • Kitchen Upkeep & Safety:
    • Sweep and mop kitchen floors; promptly wipe up spills to keep floors dry and prevent slips.
    • Remove trash and garbage to external dumpsters.
    • Perform other kitchen utility duties as assigned by management.

  • Experience & Independence: Ability to work unsupervised, follow directions, and proactively ask clarifying questions when needed.
  • Adaptability: Driven to deliver results and capable of adapting to frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communication & Detail: Strong oral communication skills and high attention to detail.
  • Compliance: Strict adherence to local health codes and food safety protocols.
  • Availability & Logistics: Must have reliable transportation (an Island Access Pass will be provided) and a flexible schedule to work varying hours, evenings, and weekends.
