Job description

The Sales Manager is responsible for training our Outside Sales and Kitchen & Bath Design teams as well as assisting in growing sales and assist customers and contractors with any lumber or design project needs. Home base office will be at our Central Office in Batesville, IN. 
Essential Functions:
  • Provide excellent customer service to our team members, customers and vendors.
  • Actively meet with sales and designer representatives to see if they need any help on projects they are working on. Make sure they have the tools and proper information to do their job.
  • Coach, train, mentor outside sales and design team.
  • Meet with customers/contractors in the field, make connections in the community, leave a good impression.
  • Respond to customer inquiries regarding product selection, placement of orders, requests for prices and quotations, complaints and scheduling of deliveries and installations. Provide customer follow-ups.
  • Knowledge of construction in residential and commercial framing along with other building materials such as windows, doors, interior and exterior mill-work, and trusses.
  • Able to work independently and with sales team members to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Train team members on GHC products and service offerings.
  • Make sure sales representatives have proper cost information and training from vendors.
  • Negotiate with vendors to ensure our stores have most up to date display fixtures for our show rooms.
  • Hold sales team accountable for completing accurate and complete invoices, work orders, and sales tickets.
  • Set sales goals for sales and design team members.
  • Research credits, returns, and late payments as needed.
  • Ensure our sales representatives are representing GHC in a positive way.
  • Provide feedback and reviews to sales team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Pricing knowledge of lumber and other materials.

  • Ability to read, count, and write to accurately complete all documentation.

Supervisory Responsibility: This position directly supervises our sales and kitchen & bath design team.
Work Environment: This position will work inside at an office as well as do lots of driving visiting each of our retail store locations and visiting customers and contractors as needed.
Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; read, talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk.
Physical Requirements:
The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing and walking throughout the day.
  • Drive daily to store locations.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 10 lbs.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position, 45 hours/week. Typical hours will be 7am – 5pm, Mon – Fri.
Required Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED diploma or one to three years of related experience or training or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in the building materials/construction industry
  • 5+ years managing a sales team
  • Valid driver’s license.
