Description
GENERAL FUNCTION:Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Kid Zone Attendant will supervise children and provide a safe and fun-filled experience while their parents are using the YMCA facility.
MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience Requirements:
  1. Minimum age of 16
  2. Relevant experience working with children

Physical/Mental Requirements:
  1. Must be able to routinely perform the following moderate physical activities; climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, walk and stand for extended periods of time, lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity
  2. Must possess and demonstrate a high level of maturity, patience, dependability, sound judgment; and the desire to work with all ages, especially children
  3. Must possess problem solving, organizational and task management skills; ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment
  4. Must demonstrate a high level of maturity, patience, dependability, sound judgment and the desire to work with all ages, especially youth
  5. Must exhibit initiative in the absence of supervision
  6. Must be able to relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner
  7. Must work collaboratively as a team member as well as independently and lead by assigned goals, duties and deadlines
  8. Must present a neat and professional appearance at all times

Job Requirements:
  1. Commitment to the YMCA mission, vision and values
  2. Must attend New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire
  3. Complete CPR/AED and First Aid in accordance with Conditions of Employment
  4. Learn all emergency procedures and action plans for the branch as necessary
  5. Understand and abide-by all policies and procedures as set forth by the association
  6. Work a schedule that reflects the needs of the branch; including weekends and evenings

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Responsible for building effective, authentic relationships with children, parents, volunteers and staff; smiling and greeting each child and parent by name.
  2. Responsible for following policies and performing related administrative procedures.
  3. Positioning self for optimal interaction and supervision of assigned children and monitoring the drop-off and pick-up of children to ensure their safety and well-being.
  4. Actively engaging with children on an individual basis yet maintaining control of entire group; initiating age appropriate games and activities and providing clear and consistent expectations for behavior.
  5. Setting firm limits with positive phrasing and actions when necessary and supporting and demonstrating discipline practices in accordance with YMCA policies.
  6. Providing basic care for children; following any special instructions received from parents and communicating with staff team and provide feedback to parents.
  7. Conveying information on youth and family programs and schedules and as appropriate and referring children and parents to other programs.
  8. Gathering feedback from members and share with supervisor to improve service.
  9. Submitting completed records on time (i.e. attendance, behavior issues).
  10. Completing daily cleaning duties and additional as deemed necessary and reporting any facility or equipment irregularities, unsafe conditions or feedback to supervisor verbally and in writing.
  11. Being knowledgeable and prepared to implement emergency procedures; following and enforcing all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
  12. Reporting all incidents/accidents on the appropriate form as required and provide to supervisor within 24 hours of event.
  13. Attending all required training sessions and scheduled meetings.
  14. Maintaining prompt hours and follow established procedures for absences.
  15. Supporting Strong Community Campaign fundraising efforts.
  16. All other duties as assigned.
