Reports to: Recreation Supervisor - Sports and/or Recreation Coordinator
Location: Youth: William R. Oliver Youth Complex (WRO) and/or Mindiola
Adult: Saratoga and Buchner
Wages (Range): Youth Umpire/Official: Starting at $15.00 per game (rate depends on level)
Adult Official, $30 per game
Seasons: Youth Officials: June - July (Baseball/Softball), Youth Official: April - May and September - October (Soccer)
Adult Official: May - October (Softball/Kickball) September - October (Touch Football), and January - March (Basketball)
The official will be responsible for controlling the game by following league rules/policies and enforcing calls.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. *Study and understand all youth baseball, softball, t-ball rules, especially those special rules specific to WPRF leagues.
*Study and understand all youth soccer rules, especially those special rules specific to WPRF leagues.
*Study and understand all adult softball/kickball rules, USA Softball, Touch Football, and Basketball rules in addition to any special WPRF leagues rules. Officials will also enforce the Adult Sports Policy.
2. To arrive at ball field 15 minutes before the game.
3. Youth Officials: Baseball/Softball: Pick up scorecards, two balls, brush, clicker, pencil, and stopwatch. Soccer: Pick up corner flags, line judge flags, assist with field setup.
Adult Umpires: Softball: Collect one new game ball from each team. Touch Football and Basketball: Remind players to sign in.
4. Youth and Adult Officials: Meet with coaches and/or captains before game, clarify any questions, review ground rules, and introduce self to both coaches.
5. Youth Umpires (Baseball, and Softball only): Record scores each ยฝ inning and checks with team score keepers, turn card into Recreation Coordinator after game. Be sure to write clearly and sign card.
Adult Umpire: Make sure scorekeeper is ready to start game and check in during
game for any issues.
6. Youth Umpire must wear WPRF T-shirt to each game, you will be given shirt at
beginning of season.
Adult Umpires: Collar Shirt in the color of light blue or navy or WPRF staff shirt.
Shorts or pants in the color of black or blue. No jeans or sport shorts.
7. Beware of inclement weather, report for work unless you have confirmed that games
have been cancelled.
8. You are required to work your assigned games unless you can find a replacement for
yourself off the umpire roster.
9. First Aid supplies may be obtained from Recreation Coordinator; Recreation
Coordinator would call 911 if needed.
10. Record all games worked on timecards at the complex, make sure you sign timecard.
