Diesel Service Writer Summary: In this role, the Diesel Service Writer serves as the primary point of contact between customers and the service department. The Service Writer is responsible for opening repair orders, communicating repair recommendations, scheduling work, and ensuring customers receive exceptional service throughout the repair process.

Diesel Service Writer Pay Rate: $20-$30/hr.

Diesel Service Writer Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Diesel Service Writer Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Greet customers and gather information regarding vehicle concerns and repair requests.
  • Create and maintain service repair orders from intake to completion.
  • Schedule service appointments and coordinate workflow with technicians.
  • Communicate diagnostic findings, repair recommendations, and estimates to customers.
  • Provide regular updates regarding repair status and estimated completion times.
  • Coordinate with the parts department to verify availability of parts and materials.
  • Review completed repairs with customers and explain services performed.
  • Process invoices, payments, and service documentation accurately.
  • Maintain detailed customer and vehicle records.
  • Assist with warranty claims and manufacturer documentation when required.
  • Address customer concerns and resolve service-related issues professionally.
  • Ensure all repair orders are completed accurately and closed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean and organized service office environment.
  • Support shop operations and service management as needed.
Diesel Service Writer Basic Requirements:
  • Previous experience as a Service Writer, Service Advisor, or customer service representative preferred.
  • Knowledge of diesel trucks, heavy equipment, or fleet maintenance preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn service management software.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and understand repair estimates and service documentation.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
