Kennel Associate information

What is a kennel associate?

Kennel Associates are animal care professionals responsible for the daily care and well-being of animals in kennels, veterinary clinics, animal shelters, or boarding facilities. Their duties include feeding, cleaning enclosures, exercising animals, and monitoring their health and behavior. Kennel Associates also assist with basic grooming, record keeping, and sometimes help veterinarians or technicians during treatments. They play a vital role in ensuring animals are safe, comfortable, and healthy during their stay.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a kennel associate?

To thrive as a Kennel Associate, you need basic animal care knowledge, physical stamina, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with animal handling equipment, cleaning supplies, and sometimes pet care management software is commonly required. Attention to detail, patience, and strong communication with both pets and their owners are valuable soft skills. These abilities ensure animal safety, cleanliness, and a positive experience for both pets and clients in a kennel environment.

What are some common challenges faced by kennel associates and how can they be managed effectively?

Kennel Associates often encounter challenges such as managing multiple animals with varying temperaments, maintaining cleanliness in a high-traffic environment, and handling emergency situations like sudden illness or injuries. Effective time management, strong communication with team members, and adhering to established safety protocols are key to overcoming these challenges. Regular training and a supportive team environment also help ensure both the animals' well-being and a positive workplace experience for associates.

What is the difference between Kennel Associate vs Pet Care Technician?

Job description

Associate Veterinarian - Thrive in a Supportive, Family-Oriented Practice! No Weekends or After Hours On-Call Shifts | Moving Into a Brand-New Building Spring 2027! Your Next Chapter Starts Here At Village East Animal Hospital, we're not just a workplace — we're a community. Our mission is to support your growth, celebrate your successes, and create a fulfilling career experience rooted in compassion, collaboration, and care. Whether you're just starting out or looking to expand your expertise, we'll be with you every step of the way. Exciting News — We're Moving Into a Brand-New Building! We're thrilled to announce that Village East is moving into a brand-new, single-level facility in Spring 2027! This is a rare opportunity to join a growing practice and help shape the future of a hospital built from the ground up with our team and patients in mind. Here's a peek at what's coming: * All on one level — no stairs, no split floors, just smooth workflow * Aiming for 12 exam rooms (may land closer to 10) — a huge jump up from just 5 in our current building * 2 surgery suites, plus a double dental suite * Open floor plan for treatment, designed for better collaboration and flow * Indoor pet relief area * All-new, updated equipment throughout * New PIMS system * We're even working on adding a comfort room that opens to the outdoors Meet the Team You'll Be Joining We typically run with 3 DVMs on schedule per day, so you'll never be on an island — support and camaraderie are built into every shift. You'll also get to work alongside Dr. Durroh, who is rehab certified and performs TPLO surgeries regularly. He's a fantastic mentor for anyone early in their career looking to build surgical or rehab skills. Our support staff includes 2 full-time LVTs and 1 part-time LVT, and we maintain a 2:1 support staff to DVM ratio so our doctors are never stretched thin. We'll be honest — like a lot of practices, we've seen some turnover on our technician team, but we're actively partnering with local veterinary technician programs to recruit their newest LVT graduates and keep building a strong, skilled team. The Perks That Matter: * Competitive salary — guaranteed base + monthly production bonus * Sign-on bonus * Relocation bonus up to $10,000 for out-of-state candidates * Full benefits package, including: * Health, dental, and vision insurance * Short & long-term disability * Life insurance * 401(k) with generous company match * Annual CE allowance * Paid license & dues * Employee discounts for your own furry friends * Leadership growth & career development opportunities * Generous PTO * Early career? We offer a structured mentorship program Your Schedule, Protected Everyone works Monday-Friday with one weekday off, for a true 4-day work week. No weekends, no after-hours on-call! Our Culture = Your Foundation We're passionate about creating a workplace where our team members feel seen, heard, and valued. Interested in a specialty or want to bring a new skill to the table? We'll invest in your training, equipment, and even marketing support. At Village East, your professional dreams matter — and we want to help you achieve them. Our Clientele We're proud to serve a well-established client base that continues to grow. This community has truly rallied around our hospital — our own Dr. Kemp was voted Best DVM in Evansville! About Our Practice Located on bustling Green River Road in Evansville, IN, our hospital has proudly served the community for over 30 years. We blend small-town charm with cutting-edge medicine in a welcoming, well-equipped facility that includes: * Laser therapy * Digital radiography & dental X-ray * Ultrasound * Advanced anesthesia monitoring * In-house IDEXX lab * Dedicated surgery and dental suites * Spacious treatment, kennel, and bathing areas And with our brand-new hospital opening Spring 2027, the best is yet to come! Explore Life in Evansville Whether you love the outdoors, enjoy exploring local food festivals, or thrive in the arts scene, Evansville offers the perfect blend of charm and convenience. With affordable living, great schools, and access to nature and culture, it's a great place to live and work. Bonus? You're just a short drive from Nashville, Louisville, St. Louis, and Indianapolis — ideal for weekend getaways! Ready to Join a Practice That Feels Like Home — and Help Build Its Future? We're excited to meet compassionate veterinarians who are ready to make a real impact, right as we embark on this exciting new chapter.
