Location: San Diego, CA (Onsite)
Schedule: Tuesday – Saturday, 12:30 PM – 9:00 PM
Pay Rate: $50–$55/hour

Kelly Science & Clinical is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) for a 12-month contract opportunity with a leading molecular diagnostics laboratory in San Diego, California. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing laboratory team dedicated to delivering accurate and timely diagnostic testing that supports critical patient care decisions.

Position Summary
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) will perform high-complexity clinical laboratory testing, analyze and review patient results, conduct quality control activities, and ensure compliance with all applicable laboratory regulations and quality standards. This position requires strong technical expertise, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform high-complexity molecular diagnostic testing on clinical specimens
  • Follow established laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, analysis, and result reporting
  • Perform and document quality control and quality assurance activities
  • Prepare laboratory reagents and materials required for testing
  • Complete assigned laboratory and operational tasks
  • Participate in training and competency assessments
  • Perform proficiency testing and support laboratory accreditation requirements
  • Assist with assay validation, verification, and research activities
  • Troubleshoot testing issues and identify potential factors affecting test performance
  • Document corrective actions and deviations according to laboratory procedures
  • Maintain compliance with CLIA, CAP, state, and federal regulatory requirements
  • Follow laboratory safety policies and environmental health and safety procedures
  • Participate in inspections, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate effectively with laboratory staff and management to support operational goals
Qualifications
Required
  • Active California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) License OR Clinical Genetic Molecular Biology Scientist (CGMBS) License (required; no exceptions)
  • Experience performing high-complexity testing in a clinical laboratory setting
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Proficiency with laboratory information systems and computer applications
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Preferred
  • Experience in molecular diagnostics
  • Hands-on experience with PCR, microarray, Sanger sequencing, and/or next-generation sequencing (NGS)
  • Experience working in a CAP/CLIA-regulated laboratory environment
