Polymer Concepts Technologies PBY, Inc. KRS Division dba Kaydon Ring amp; Seal (“KRS”) is responsible for Aerospace and Industrial applications. KRS has a customer portfolio that includes all major players in the Aerospace and Industrial industries. Our business is fully customer focused, with products specifically designed for an engine/airframe application and then produced in small quantities and small lots on highly flexible equipment. Extreme product range fragmentation, complex product design, very high-quality standards and traceability requirements are the peculiarity of KRS.
Job Summary: The Design Engineer is accountable for conducting application and design engineering on new and existing products. Establishes specifications for finished product designs as dictated by customer(s) or market requirements. Provides technical assistance to Sales, Quality Assurance, Purchasing and Manufacturing. Investigates and/or creates new product opportunities. Develops original designs or specialized adaptions. Responds to customer inquiries in conjunction with Sales/Marketing.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Support and comply with all facility safety rules, policies and procedures.
  • Investigates new designs; evaluates engineering proposals; writes specifications and computer programs.

  • Analyzes returned product and repair orders, prepares, and distributes a report and initiates follow up on appropriate corrective action.

  • Critically reviews customer drawings and specifications as they relate to the application for both new and repeat orders.

  • Prepares formal, technical proposals that satisfy customer inquiries or specifications.

  • Studies and evaluates new product ideas for their potentiality and practicality.

  • Makes modifications and design changes in existing product lines.

  • Interfaces with and provides application assistance to customers, distributors and field sales personnel by telephone and in person.

  • Reviews sales orders for technical accuracy; verifies that Kaydon’s drawings conform to latest requirements.

  • Establishes drawing specifications for sales orders on new products.

  • Analyzes and reports on returned products from the field for signs of possible misapplication or manufacturing defects.

  • Works closely with Manufacturing, Quality Assurance and Sales departments’ personnel in preparation and finalization of product and process designs, in establishment of uniform specifications for materials and/or equipment.

  • Maintains engineering files.

  • Applies or establishes engineering standards, practices and specifications and ensures sound, technical engineering concepts are applied.

  • Performs special projects as directed.

Additional Duties:

  • Perform other related duties as assigned, consistent with business needs.

Minimum Requirements:

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant/related degree.
  • Knowledge of Solidworks modeling and use of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance standards as they may be applied to Kaydon products.
  • Works under direct supervision. Breadth of tasks limited. Simpler phases of product engineering requiring less evaluation, analysis, ingenuity or design complexity. Performs more detailed or routine development engineering assignments. Gathers, correlates, analyzes basic engineering data, engineering specifications, provides new designs or proposals involving simpler applications.
  • Minimum latitude for unreviewed action/decision making.
  • Ideal candidate will have seal design experience commensurate with role as described below; a high degree of computer literacy; a solid understanding of business, cost elements, selling and manufacturing processes; and an advanced level of mechanical aptitude and comprehension.
  • Must be able to effectively interact with all levels of the organization and with customers and to communicate effectively either orally or in writing.
  • Candidate MUST be a U.S. Person.
