Job Description
SUMMARY:
Provides Physician Assistant (PA) services by collecting data required for diagnosis and performing procedures and services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Participates in established peer (other medical specialist) review process monthly. Provides chart review for quality assurance purposes in the area of orthopedics if requested on an occasional basis.
  • Obtains and evaluates medical histories, performs physical examinations, performs therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, and orders laboratory studies, radiographs, electrocardiograms, and other special examinations.
  • Collects specimens for pathologic examination. Analyzes and interprets data, formulates problem lists, and establishes plans for solution of clinical problems.
  • Counsel's patients on medical problems, use of drugs, expected effects of treatment, family planning, childcare, diet, and other therapeutic health maintenance matters.
  • Makes entries in patient's permanent medical records.
  • In emergency situations, administers lifesaving procedures and medications pending availability of physician.
  • Procedures include cardiopulmonary resuscitation, treatment of life endangering traumatic injuries, defibrillation, insertion of endotracheal tubes, and administration of whole blood, oxygen, and other emergency medications.
  • Initiates consultation requests to other health professionals to provide more comprehensive patient management.
  • Instructs other personnel assigned to health care team on preventive medicine programs and other appropriate medical activities and functions as directed.
  • Assists the orthopedic surgeons in the operating room. The PA will perform nonoperative management of various fractures. The PA must be proficient with orthopedic casting and injections.
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

None.
Job Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduate from a physician assistant education program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission for Physician Assistant Education, Inc.
  • Graduate Physician Assistant qualified by academic and practical education to provide patient services as a physician extender under supervision of a physician.
  • Post-Graduate Training: Successfully completed an accredited Orthopedic Surgery Physician Assistant residency or fellowship program that is at least twelve (12) months in length.
  • Must be certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Must have an active, current, valid, unrestricted license from a U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Have actively practiced as an Orthopedic Surgery Physician Assistant or in training for twenty-four (24) months within the last thirty-six (36) months and able to demonstrate clinical and surgical first assistant competency.
  • Must have and maintain current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Red Cross.
  • Must obtain and maintain the site's required health screening and immunization requirements.
  • Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks.
  • Must obtain and maintain all required documents, certifications, licenses, etc. listed on the credentialling checklist, sent by Katmai's Credentialing Specialist, for this position for initial hire. All certifications listed must be maintained. Expired certifications are not valid.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
  • Coordinates patient care with other members of health care team.
  • Accomplishes narrative summaries and other documentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

WORK SCHEDULE:
Full-time. May be required to work additional hours as needed to complete assignment or project.
TRAVEL:
All Market contractors are subject to working at a duty location at any of the MTFs or associated sub clinics within the Colorado Military Health System (CMHS). The Physician Assistant may perform all duties at Memorial Hospitals and the Penrose St. Francis Health Care System
DRIVING REQUIREMENT:
Must have or be able to attain a valid state driver's license and be insurable on the company's automobile insurance policy. Driving may be required when traveling and/or short occasional amounts of local driving. The expected driving time is less than 10%.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed primarily indoors at a well-lit military treatment facility such as a clinic, outpatient facility or hospital. The environment is normally air conditioned, but conditions may change dependent upon circumstances. Work may need to be performed in a fast-paced environment requiring quick thinking and rapid judgements. Employee will be exposed to a wide variety of clients in differing functions, personalities and abilities. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids, latex, radiation or other contaminants and safety issues. May be exposed to infection or diseases from contact with patients.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Position consists of sitting for long periods of time, using hands/fingers, handling, reaching with hands and arms, speaking, or translating. Periods of walking, standing, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and lifting boxes weighing up to 30 pounds. Moderate to extended periods of office work with heavy periods of computer usage.   • Pay range: $71.00 per hour.
  • H&W: $5.09
