Job description

This is a full-time, 12-month, non-exempt position that reports to the Director of Campus Care and Inclusion and is located at the JWCC campus in Quincy, Illinois. Position begins immediately.

JOB DESCRIPTION

John Wood Community College (JWCC) is seeking a Coordinator of Access & Disability Services. The Coordinator of Access & Disability Services manages Disability Services (DS) functions for the College. This position is solely responsible for balancing the needs of the students with regulatory law compliance (ADAAA, Rehabilitation Act), family involvement, academic integrity, and College budgets. The Coordinator of Access & Disability Services will also interpret the law in order to approve each student's eligibility for accommodations, hire and train accommodation aides, coordinate accommodation aides' schedules to match those of the students, and control use of JWCC adaptive equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide direct services to JWCC students with disabilities.
  • Establish DS daily procedures.
  • Determine eligibility for accommodations by reviewing relevant documentation and conducting personal interviews with students.
  • Determine appropriate accommodations each semester for each student and hire staff to fulfill those needs.
  • Consult with students regarding disability issues, provide advocacy training, and resolve accommodation-related issues.
  • Collaborate with staff, faculty, and administration to provide accommodations.
  • Manage the DS program, budget, and resources according to best practices at the federal and state level to ensure compliance with the ADAAA.
  • Publicize disability services to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Supervise disability aides by selecting, hiring, and monitoring daily performance.
  • Manage family involvement according to FERPA guidelines.
  • Maintain confidential records on all interactions.
  • Collect progress data, prepare specific college, state, and federal level reports, and respond to national surveys on behalf of JWCC in regard to disability services.
  • Consult with involved staff to provide appropriate access to all college facilities and functions along with disability services for sponsored events.
  • Provide institutional support by serving on internal committees and attending division meetings, staff development, counselor meetings, etc.
  • Comply with all JWCC policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience required.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Must be able to relate well to a diverse population.
  • Ability to apply disability laws to requests received for academic accommodations.
  • Must be able to handle requests and other matters with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills.
  • Able to work as part of a team and independently with little oversight.

Work Schedule:

  • Full-time position with a typical schedule of Monday-Thursday (8am โ€“ 5pm) and Friday (8am โ€“ 12pm).

SALARY

  • This is a non-exempt position with an approximate annual salary of $42,000 - $50,000.
