Overview
The Texas Water Utiltieis team is seeking a Water-wastewater Operator in Training. The Water/Wastewater Operator performs routine checks of water and/or wastewater treatment systems; responsible for compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local rules/regulations. Assist in all areas of operations, maintenance, and customer service as needed for all facility systems within the company. Collects samples and performs routine monitoring and testing of water and wastewater, collects samples for testing, including effluent samples, flows, and settable solids. Assists with general maintenance duties at facilities; washes down thickener, digester basin, and walkway; washes down aeration basin wall and walkway; checks and washes down bar screen and strainer; cleans clarifiers; dumps and cleans scum basin; operation of belt press. Certifications required for the job must be obtained within the specified period of time.
Work Location and Schedule
This position will travel between service areas near Pflugerville, TX. Schedule is Monday through Friday. After-hour and weekend on-call support may be required. Must be available to work shift work; weekend scheduling may be required.

This position will be willing and able to perform the following duties and others as assigned:
  • Operates and maintains the water/wastewater treatment facilities as required by city, state, and federal guidelines;
  • Performs daily analyses of effluent samples; makes necessary adjustments to keep facility within permit limits; Makes operational adjustments as needed to comply with state and federal water quality standards
  • Adjusts chemical treatment to ensure water quality standards are met.
  • Assists with water and wastewater line repairs, new line installation, and other work as directed.
  • Inspect and maintains pumps, motors, valves, and other plant equipment in working order, troubleshooting problems as they arise.
  • Respond to and investigate customer service calls. Complete customer service work orders, updates and maintains activity with required documentation and closes work orders in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Performs routine tests on water treatment facilities including tests related to treatment process, chemicals, pumps, motors, and routine water quality sampling. Collect and analyze appropriate readings of gauges and meters;
  • Conducts routine testing, monitoring and maintenance of production wells, water/wastewater unit processes and basic laboratory analyses.
  • Performs and documents treatment process and maintenance of treatment facility equipment.
  • Documents plant performance including daily flow, well meter readings and chemical dosage and usage.

  • Prefer experience operating back-hoe and/or track-hoe equipment.

Education and Licenses
  • H.S Diploma
  • Valid Driver's License

Nice to Have
  • TX - TCEQ Water Operator Class D(preferred)
  • TX - TCEQ Wastewater D(preferred)

Technical Skills
  • Ability to read meters, charts, and gauges
  • Ability to read and comprehend written technical information and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to perform mathematical equations to determine chemical doses for flow rates and treatment
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to operate, maneuver, and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, and tools
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers and regulatory agencies.

Work Environment
  • Extreme physical demands, including lifting (75 lbs.), walking (10+ miles daily), climbing and mechanical repair. You will be expected to work in all weather conditions: rain, snow, extreme heat and cold, etc; you may encounter various potential hazards in the field
