Applications Environment Analyst

Job Summary: The primary responsibilities of the Applications Environment Analyst will be the implementation and support of purchased commercial application software. The candidate hired for this dynamic position will regularly work with business clients, vendors, application project and support teams within the 3M Infrastructure organization including Database, Storage, Networking, Security, Active Directory and Hardware etc. Purchased applications make use of a wide variety of technologies. The candidate hired for this position will routinely utilize their Linux and Windows Administration experience. Bash, PowerShell or other proven scripting capabilities are expected as well as any experience with middleware components such as Tomcat, Apache, JBOSS, WebSphere, WebLogic, and IIS. A willingness to learn any of these technologies not yet experienced is key to success. The successful candidate will support and/or lead enterprise level projects of various complexity while working under minimal supervision. Expectations of this role include environment design analysis, application installation, testing, debugging and regular documentation. Ongoing support will dive deep into application support and maintenance, including any necessary patching, upgrades and remediations necessary for the purchased commercial application.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Consult with application project teams on the evaluation of potential vendor package solutions.
  • Collaborate with application vendor, project and infrastructure teams to define optimal architecture and support.
  • Implement the software environment, including middleware, such as Apache, Tomcat and IIS.
  • Implement environment monitoring tools.
  • Ongoing application environment support through regular maintenance, updates, performance tuning, patching, availability and vulnerability remediations, engaging the vendor as needed.
  • Ongoing application environment availability and performance troubleshooting as needed.
  • Application integration using LDAP, SSO, load balancers, and various databases types.
  • Adapts differing troubleshooting techniques to develop complex issue solutions.
  • Useful process-documentation management throughout various responsibilities of their specific assignments.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead projects of moderate to advanced complexity.
  • Directly impact the team by providing direction, advice and focus for junior members; provide input on performance of other team members as needed.
  • Cultivates a network of resources for completion of assignments, while acting in a manner consistent with 3M’s values and ethical standards.
  • Participation in off-hours on-call support rotation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications

It is not expected that the individual be knowledgeable in all areas. Exposure to multiple technologies, an ability to troubleshoot and a willingness to continue learning are expected. Technical administrative, troubleshooting and support experience within an Enterprise Application Environment. Windows and Linux O/S administration, troubleshooting and optimization in complex environments. Experience with any 3rd party integrated SAP software modules. Experience installing, supporting and patching packaged applications in a multi-national corporate setting. Middleware installation and configuration experience - Apache Tomcat, JBOSS, WebSphere, WebLogic and/or IIS. Practical, hands-on scripting experience of any kind – Bash, PowerShell,.Net, etc. Windows Server NTFS and Share security administration. Familiarity with Linux clustering and persistence and Windows high availability architectures. Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server Studio Manager and/or Oracle database client software. Familiarity with sound Project Management practices and techniques. Application authentication configuration using LDAP. Exposure to validated and/or other regulated environment environments involving CFR Part 11, HIPPA, PCI, etc. A desire to own the rapid resolution of a problem regardless of where the root cause might officially reside. An affinity and aptitude for a broad variety of computing technologies. Excellent oral, written and collaborative business communication and team capabilities.
