What Does a Junior Web Designer Do?

A junior web designer works with a senior web designer to create website templates and mock-ups. In this role, you meet with clients to determine what graphics, content, and design elements they want for their website and then work with developers to implement them. Your duties include creating wireframes to help build the optimal user experience, collaborating with product owners, ensuring the implementation of their ideas, conducting user research, and evaluating feedback. Other responsibilities include promoting design guidelines and maintaining best practices across platforms. You also design email blasts and presentations and collaborate with other designers.

Is web design still worth it in 2026?

Web design remains a valuable skill in 2026, as businesses continue to prioritize online presence and user experience. Junior web designers with knowledge of HTML, CSS, and design tools like Adobe XD or Figma are in demand, especially as websites evolve to be more interactive and mobile-friendly.

Is AI replacing web design?

AI tools are increasingly used in web design to automate tasks like layout generation and content creation, but they do not fully replace the role of a junior web designer. Human creativity, user experience understanding, and design skills remain essential for creating effective and personalized websites. Web designers often use AI as a supplement to enhance productivity and innovation.

How much do entry level website designers make?

Entry-level web designers typically earn between $40,000 and $55,000 annually, depending on location, skills, and employer. Junior Web Designers often encounter challenges such as adapting to different design tools, balancing creativity with user and client requirements, and working within established brand guidelines. Additionally, collaborating with developers and receiving constructive feedback can be new experiences. To overcome these challenges, it's helpful to seek mentorship within your team, actively participate in design reviews, and continuously practice using industry-standard tools like Adobe XD or Figma. Embracing feedback and staying updated on web design trends can also support your growth in the role.
