Job Description
As a Senior Statistical Advisor, a Senior Director-level role, you will act as a trusted advisor to Disease Area Leads and stakeholders, drive the development and adoption of transformative statistics innovations, provide leadership for cross-functional strategic initiatives, deliver expert consultation on complex scientific and methodological challenges across therapeutic areas, guide junior biostatisticians in their support of project teams, and cultivate relationships with external thought leaders. The ideal candidate will be a widely recognized expert in statistics communities and have a proven track record of scientific publications.
Key Responsibilities
  • Initiates and drives transformative statistics innovations.
  • Acts as a trusted advisor to Disease Area Leads and stakeholders.
  • Provides leadership for cross-functional strategic initiatives.
  • Provides subject matter expertise in areas that are crucial for the business.
  • Works with project teams to assist with innovative trial design, simulation and execution, and develop adaptive trials software tools as appropriate.
  • Guides junior statisticians in their support of project teams.
  • Provides statistical training to colleagues who are not statisticians.
  • Presents and/or publishes new statistical methodology within and outside of the company.

Basic Qualifications
  • 12+ years of industry experience in pharma/device/diagnostics or academia experience in clinical trial research
  • PhD degree in Biostatistics or related field

Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Has good understanding of state-of-the-art statistical methods for drug development.
  • Understands the business beyond the area of Biostatistics and is a widely recognized statistical expert within and outside of the company.
  • Experience with driving transformative statistical innovations.
  • Demonstrated track record of supporting large and complex development portfolios and of scientific publications.
  • Able to set up and influence collaborations with academic institutions or government agencies to strengthen the external presence of the company.
  • Able to present complex statistical concepts and thinking to others.
  • Able to identify the most critical aspects of a problem/issue.
  • Proficiency in R or SAS programming and software development.
  • Can use competitive intelligence to influence clinical development strategies.

The salary range for this position is: $261,375.00 - $338,250.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
