Summary

The Software Engineer in Test (SET) is a hands on quality engineering contributor responsible for building, maintaining, and executing automated solutions that ensure the reliability, stability, and usability of Allegiantโ€™s software systems. This role supports both pre production and production quality activities, including smoke testing, release validation, and ongoing automation that enables business and technology teams.

In addition to traditional test automation, the SET applies AI assisted tooling and creative automation techniques to improve efficiency, reduce manual effort, and solve quality and workflow challenges. The ideal candidate is curious, adaptable, and motivated to explore innovative approachesโ€”leveraging modern frameworks, AI tools, and scriptingโ€”to deliver practical automation solutions that provide real value to engineering and business users.

Minimum Requirements

Combination of Education and Experience will be considered. Must be authorized to work in the US as defined by the Immigration Act of 1986. Must pass a Criminal Background Check.

Education: Bachelorโ€™s Degree in computer science, Information technology, Information Systems or related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Years of Experience: Minimum two (2) years of experience in test automation or software quality engineering.

Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in JavaScript and at least one additional language such as Java, Python, or TypeScript.
  • Experience with modern automation frameworks such as Playwright, WebDriver, Cypress, or Selenium.
  • Experience testing RESTful APIs using tools like Postman, REST Assured, or SoapUI.
  • Familiarity with BDD concepts and writing Gherkin style scenarios.
  • Working knowledge of Git for version control and collaboration.
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
  • Ability to analyze test results, identify failures, and document actionable defects.
AI and Automation Awareness
  • Familiarity with AI assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub, Copilot, or similar) to support test creation, scripting, and problem solving.
  • Openness to using AI tools to improve productivity, reduce repetitive work, and explore smarter automation approaches.
Foundational Knowledge
  • Solid understanding of QA methodologies, testing levels, and the SDLC.

Job Duties
  • Develop, maintain, and execute automated tests across UI and API layers using modern automation frameworks.
  • Support smoke testing, release validation, and production verification activities to ensure system stability.
  • Contribute to and enhance existing automation frameworks following established standards and best practices.
  • Integrate automated tests and validation checks into CI/CD pipelines to enable fast, reliable feedback.
  • Partner with developers, QA, and business stakeholders to validate functional and non functional requirements.
  • Provide automation support for non testing use cases, such as business process automation or workflow validation for business users.
  • Apply AI assisted tools to accelerate test creation, scripting, and troubleshooting where appropriate.
  • Investigate and propose creative-automation solutions to reduce manual effort and solve recurring quality or workflow problems.
  • Assist with test data creation, environment validation, and execution support.
  • Analyze failures, troubleshoot issues, and log clear, actionable defects.
  • Maintain documentation for automated tests, utilities, and validation processes.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies, test reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Continuously learn and apply emerging tools and techniques in testing, automation, and AI.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of quality and automation initiatives.

Office/IT

While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, see, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, key board, printer, and phone. May be required to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs. May be required to work various shifts/days in a 24 hour situation. Regular attendance is a requirement of the role. Exposure to moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones, printers, and foot traffic), temperature and light fluctuations. Ability to work in a confined area as well as the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time. Some travel may be a requirement of the role.
