Job description

Amentum is seeking software engineering professionals with software development-related education and/or experience to support software development and integration in support of Naval projects in Dahlgren, Virginia. This position is on-site in Dahlgren, VA, where Amentum has provided support to the customer for over 60 years.
You will be part of our growing systems and software engineering team and contribute your diverse skills across multiple software contracts in support of our Software Center of Excellence. We are looking for individuals to join our team atmosphere who are eager to make a difference by solving complex Digital Engineering challenges. Apply your skills to the latest DoD weapons and sensor systems, modernizing the Navy and contributing to mission success.
JR Software Developer Responsibilities Include:
  • Support Naval projects and programs by conducting software development within the Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM) weapon system.
  • Primarily support a Senior Amentum developer in development using Agile development principles.
  • Demonstrate expertise in software requirements, architecture, and testing.
  • Support modern weapon system software development, testing, and deployment processes.
  • Utilize C, C++, Git, Jira, and static code analysis tools in support of software development activities.
  • Apply modern software development practices, including Agile, Scrum, and DevSecOps.
  • Work effectively on cross-functional teams that include members from industry and other government organizations.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with others to meet established goals and program schedules.
  • Perform analysis and problem-solving techniques in support of professional scientific and engineering work.
  • Take responsibility for professional development by acquiring knowledge and skills through continuous learning.
  • Identify, champion, and secure future work in alignment with the Branch Mission, Vision, Strategic Goals, and Objectives.

Minimum Requirements:
  • 1-10 years of experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, physics, mathematics, engineering, or another applicable technical field, or equivalent experience in lieu of the education requirement.
  • Familiarity with Agile Development.
  • Successful candidates must possess excellent communication skills and be able to interact directly with customers and engineering personnel, including the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing at all levels, including Senior Managers and Program Managers.
  • Must have an active Secret U.S. Government clearance. U.S. citizenship is required to maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Candidate must maintain a valid REAL ID driver's license, required for access to the customer site, and have access to reliable transportation, as this position requires occasional travel between local work sites during the week.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Embedded systems, GNC algorithms, and High/Low/Medium Fidelity Simulators.
  • 1+ years of Surface Combat Systems or DoW Weapons System sustainment experience.
  • Sustainment of software systems on surface ships and subsurface boats.

Compensation Details:
US: $80,000-$110,000
