Job description

Job Title: DevOps Engineer
Location: San Francisco, CA - 3 days onsite per week
Length: 6-10 months
 
Role: We are looking for a DevOps Engineer who will help standardize and automate country launches for Shopify and related Java-based backend services. This person will work closely with engineering leadership and should be capable of operating independently, identifying operational gaps, and driving improvements with minimal direction.
Top Skills/Experience Needed:
Experience with cloud infrastructure (strong preference to Azure)
CI/CD experience
Scripting (Python/Bash)
Monitoring, operational tooling, and infrastructure automation is required.
Candidates should be familiar with deploying and supporting Java-based systems, though this is not a feature development role.
Ideal Candidate:
Comfortable analyzing manual operational processes and building repeatable solutions that reduce deployment risk, improve reliability, and accelerate delivery of new country launches.
Project/Industry Experience:
Automotive is preferred, Retail would be secondary
Experience with e-commerce platforms is helpful but not required.
 
 
As a Senior Engineer  specializing in DevOps, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, and optimizing cloud infrastructure and DevOps solutions. You will work closely with development, operations, and security teams to enhance automation, scalability, and reliability of cloud-based systems.

• 5+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or related fields.
• Strong expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab, or Azure DevOps.
• Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Shell, or PowerShell).
• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, or ECS.
• Strong understanding of infrastructure as code (IaC) principles using Terraform, CloudFormation, or ARM templates.
• Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools like CloudWatch, Prometheus, or ELK stack.
