What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Junior RPA Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Junior RPA Developer, you need foundational programming knowledge (e.g., Python, .NET, or Java), understanding of process automation concepts, and a relevant degree in computer science or a similar field. Familiarity with RPA platforms like UiPath, Blue Prism, or Automation Anywhere, and certifications in these tools are highly beneficial. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with business teams and troubleshoot automation issues. These competencies are vital for building reliable automation solutions that streamline business processes and drive operational efficiency.

What Does a Junior RPA Developer Do?

Robotic process automation (RPA) uses artificial intelligence or software “robots” to perform automated tasks. Your duties as a junior RPA developer involve working on new or existing automation systems for a company, potentially under the supervision of a more senior employee. You analyze your employer or client’s needs and existing AI systems, and you develop new application programs or modify and improve existing software. You then test the new RPA application and debug it if necessary. Your duties and responsibilities include assisting the IT team with configuration, implementation, and troubleshooting, and you may stick around to help non-technical employees learn to use the software.

Job description

Tarkett has a great opportunity for a Procurement Automation & Operations Specialist
The Procurement Automation & Operations Specialist is the automation engineering and analytics owner within Tarkett North America's Strategic Procurement function. This Specialist backs up the Procurement Operations & Process Improvement Specialist on PR/PO execution and leads automation building - Power Automate, RPA, AI Builder, Copilot Studio, and BOT solutions - along with procurement reporting, savings tracking, price impact, PPI, and market intelligence across all procurement categories.
On the execution side, this role is a trained, capable backup to the Procurement Operations & Process Improvement Specialist on PR/PO - covering overflow, absence, and surge volume. The primary contribution is automation engineering in Power Automate and ownership of the savings tracker (Finance-facing), plus price impact, PPI, market intelligence, and procurement reporting outputs that serve a broad audience including Procurement leadership, Finance, and stakeholders.
The ideal candidate is a capable automation builder with solid procurement knowledge and experience - someone who can cover PR/PO when needed but whose primary contribution is building automations in Power Automate and owning reporting, savings, and pricing analytics - someone who identifies inefficiency, builds the solution, and sustains it. Both competencies are required from day one.
Your skills we value:
PR/PO Execution - Backup & Overflow
  • Serves as trained backup to the Procurement Operations & Process Improvement Specialist on PR/PO execution - covers overflow, absence, and surge volume across all procurement categories.
  • Maintains full SAP/SRM buying proficiency to execute PR/PO independently when covering for the Procurement Operations & Process Improvement Specialist; applies procurement policy and buying judgment consistent with established standards.
  • Owns Investment Approval Form (IAF) workflow coordination with Finance and Project Owners; routes non-contracted spend decisions in partnership with Category Managers.

Automation Engineering - Primary Function
  • Designs, builds, validates, deploys, and sustains automation solutions using Power Automate, RPA platforms (Precisely Automate Studio, UiPath), AI Builder, Copilot Studio, and BOT solutions - translating scoped requirements from the Procurement Operations & Process Improvement Specialist into working, sustained solutions targeting the highest-friction P2P workflows.
  • Owns the full automation lifecycle: current-state process documentation, solution design, build, UAT, deployment, and ongoing bot monitoring and maintenance.
  • Surfaces automation opportunities from daily operational work; develops structured proposals for the Procurement Operations & Process Improvement Specialist to evaluate and prioritize.
  • Executes automation and process improvement projects as assigned by the Process Improvement leads - owns delivery from kickoff through sustainment with no abandoned projects.
  • Integrates AI and machine learning capabilities (document intelligence, NLP, AI-assisted decision logic) with RPA bots to handle unstructured data and exception logic in P2P workflows.
  • Supports Celonis-driven improvement initiatives by providing operational transaction context and executing assigned corrective process actions.

Digital Transformation Contribution
  • Contributes directly to Tarkett's digital procurement system implementation - supports current-state documentation, process readiness, and data quality work required for platform deployment.
  • Maintains comprehensive SOP and process map library in SharePoint; ensures documentation precedes any process change or automation deployment.
  • Monitors P2P KPI dashboards; surfaces exception trends, performance anomalies, and systemic issues with supporting data to the Process Improvement lead.
  • Provides SAP/SRM subject matter expertise on procurement master data: purchasing info records, outline agreements, and supplier setup coordination.
  • Supports maintenance of the Tarkett SharePoint Procurement site, MS Teams procurement files, and supplier contract storage system.

Procurement Reporting
  • Own and produce the monthly procurement reporting package - delivered on time, accurate, and formatted for leadership consumption.
  • Produce spend analytics and spend reporting; identify trends, anomalies, and areas of concentration that inform category and sourcing strategy.
  • Continuously improve reporting outputs as team needs evolve; proactively suggest new analyses and views that add decision-making value; partner with the Procurement Analytics & Data Governance Specialist on Power BI data accuracy and model changes.

Savings, Pricing & Market Intelligence
  • Own the procurement savings tracker - design, build, and maintain the authoritative record of captured and validated savings across categories; produce regular savings reports for leadership with consistent, defensible methodology.
  • Track and report price impact - monitor and quantify the financial impact of price changes across the indirect spend portfolio; identify variances and provide analysis to support category and sourcing decisions.
  • Track and report PPI (Product Price Index) movements relevant to Tarkett's indirect spend categories; integrate PPI data into market intelligence outputs and savings validation methodology.
  • Compile and maintain market intelligence - aggregate external category data, pricing indices, and supplier market inputs on a regular cadence to support procurement strategy and sourcing decisions.
  • Own the monthly Finance alignment call - prepare materials, present savings and price impact data, and maintain a clear record of commitments and follow-up items.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Experience & Education Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of hands-on ERP procurement experience (SAP preferred) - fully autonomous P2P execution required from day one.
  • Power Automate proficiency required from day one - demonstrated ability to build, deploy, and maintain automated workflows in Power Automate targeting P2P processes; specific built-and-deployed examples required at interview.
  • Disciplined process documentation practice - SOPs and process maps completed before changes are made, maintained in SharePoint as an ongoing standard.
  • Proven track record of completing automation or improvement projects through full deployment and sustainment - not just scoping or ideation.
  • Strong analytical capability: Excel proficiency, data pattern identification, and procurement KPI interpretation.
  • The ability to work independently.

Experience Preferred:
  • RPA platform depth: Precisely Automate Studio or UiPath - full bot lifecycle management including design, build, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
  • AI-powered automation experience: Microsoft AI Builder, Copilot Studio, or equivalent applied to procurement or finance workflows.
  • BOT + AI integration: combining RPA with document intelligence, NLP, or ML-based decision logic to handle unstructured P2P data.
  • Celonis or process mining tool experience for process analysis and conformance checking.
  • Power BI dashboard development or monitoring experience.
  • ReadSoft PDAP or comparable invoice workflow and exception management platform.
  • Certifications: CPSM, CPP, UiPath Certified Professional, Microsoft Power Platform (PL-100/PL-200), or Microsoft AI (AI-900/AI-102).
  • Manufacturing, distribution, or multi-site shared services background.
  • SQL experience for data extraction and analysis.
  • Advanced Excel skills including Macros, Power Query, and Power Pivot for data transformation and analysis.
