Job description

The essential function of the position within the organization is to develop, implement and evaluate training for Junior ROTC programs in Memphis City Schools.  The position is responsible for developing training schedules and materials, providing in-service and professional development training for JROTC instructors, coordinating and planning co-curricular activities, and performing related work as assigned.  The position works independently, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.


  1. Develops, implements and evaluates JROTC training and professional development programs for JROTC instructors in accordance with District and U.S. Army policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  2. Assist in ensuring uniformity and cohesiveness among all school JROTC units in accordance with current regulations and policies.
  3. Orders and maintains curriculum materials.
  4. Develops a master training schedule and weekly training schedules for each school year.
  5. Plans and coordinates District-wide co-curricular activities, including drill meets, marksmanship competitions, physical training and team-building events, academic knowledge competitions, parades and awards ceremonies, and an annual one-week summer camp.
  6. Develops risk assessments for all training activities; conducts safety briefings before all activities; monitors and enforces safety controls.
  7. Maintains knowledge of changes in JROTC curriculum; notifies instructors of changes and trends in JROTC instruction. 
  8. Establishes, maintains and updates training records.
  9. Establishes, maintains and updates databases of cadet records.
  10. Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints in areas of responsibility.
  11. Performs routine administrative/office tasks as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, answering the telephone, sending and receiving faxes and e-mails, entering and retrieving computer data.
  12. Attends training, conferences and workshops as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and an endorsement in the grade/subject taught with a valid Tennessee certificate.  Governed by the Rules and Regulations of the Tennessee Code Annotated and the collective bargaining agreement.

  

Requires education or experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in education, training or related field from an accredited college or university.  Requires Army officer rank.  Must possess a valid state driver's license.  Requires (3) three years of related experience

Degree Equivalency Formula:

Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included.
