Junior Microbiology Analyst

Location: Thompson Station, TN 37179
Duration: 2+ Month Contract

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Junior Microbiology Analyst to support daily operations within a Regional Microbiology Laboratory. This role is responsible for sample processing, laboratory documentation, microbiological testing support, equipment maintenance, inventory coordination, environmental monitoring, and compliance with laboratory quality and safety standards. The ideal candidate will have hands-on microbiology laboratory experience, strong organizational skills, and familiarity with laboratory information systems and aseptic techniques.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive, register, and track laboratory samples using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Perform sample preparation and assist with microbiological analyses following standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct quality checks and maintain accurate laboratory documentation in compliance with quality management systems and ISO standards.
  • Prepare microbiological media, reagents, and laboratory materials.
  • Operate, clean, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instruments and analytical equipment.
  • Monitor laboratory equipment performance and report deviations to laboratory leadership.
  • Support equipment qualification, validation, and microbiological method validation activities.
  • Perform environmental monitoring and cleaning procedures for laboratory surfaces, equipment, and utensils.
  • Manage laboratory inventory, reagents, and consumables to prevent shortages.
  • Handle and decontaminate biohazardous waste according to laboratory safety protocols.
  • Support document control, administrative tasks, and record management activities.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory health, safety, environmental, and biological risk control procedures.
  • Collaborate effectively with laboratory teams while maintaining productivity in a fast-paced environment.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, or a related scientific field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in microbiology laboratory operations or related laboratory environments.
  • Knowledge of microbiological testing procedures and laboratory workflows.
  • Understanding of aseptic techniques and cross-contamination prevention practices.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and follow-up skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends, as laboratory operations run 7 days a week.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, laboratory databases, and LIMS systems.
