Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Traffic Engineering Municipal Lead to support and expand our municipal transportation practice in Texas. This is a hybrid position, with flexibility to be based in Dallas, TX. The role serves as the technical and client-facing lead on mid- to large-scale traffic engineering and active transportation projects for city and county agencies across the state.

This position plays a critical role in strengthening AECOM's relationships with municipal clients throughout Texas. The Municipal Lead will serve as a trusted advisor to public-sector partners, presenting complex technical solutions, guiding safety and mobility strategies, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The role requires both technical depth and the ability to translate engineering concepts into actionable recommendations for stakeholders, MPOs, transit agencies, and regional planning organizations.

In addition to delivery responsibilities, this role contributes to business growth by supporting proposal development, preparing scopes and fee estimates, and helping position AECOM for continued success in municipal transportation programs. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise, sound engineering judgment, and established municipal relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead engineer for mid- to large-scale municipal traffic engineering and active transportation projects.
  • Provide specialized technical oversight for traffic studies, safety analysis, signal design, signing and pavement marking, grade crossing evaluations, and multimodal planning efforts.
  • Present complex technical findings and recommendations to municipal clients, councils, MPO boards, and other stakeholders.
  • Perform quality control reviews of plans, specifications, and technical deliverables; approve and sign off on engineering work as required.
  • Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, and resource plans throughout the full project lifecycle.
  • Prepare technical scopes of work, fee proposals, and engineering cost estimates.
  • Support business development efforts, including pursuit strategy, client relationship management, and municipal account growth.
  • Coordinate with MPOs, transit agencies, regional planning organizations, and other public-sector stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance to traffic engineering teams.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local transportation standards and safety regulations.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field, plus 8 years of relevant traffic engineering experience, or demonstrated equivalency of education and experience.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 12+ years of related traffic engineering experience.
  • Direct experience working with municipal agencies, including city and county transportation departments.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of Texas, or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
  • RSP (Road Safety Professional) certification.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, municipal client relationship management, and pursuit of transportation projects.
  • Proficiency with traffic engineering and modeling software such as MicroStation, SignCAD, Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, HCS, or similar tools.
  • Experience with active transportation planning and design, safety analysis, and highway-rail grade crossing projects.
  • Experience managing engineering design and/or planning projects from concept through construction support.
  • Experience developing municipal business development strategies and preparing scopes, budgets, and proposals.
  • Active participation in professional engineering organizations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated client-facing experience.
Additional Information
  • Sponsorship for employment authorization is not available for this position.

At AECOM, we are committed to maintaining a secure and trustworthy recruitment process and take any fraudulent hiring activity seriously.
