WHAT YOU WILL DO
As a Commissioning Engineer – HVAC/BAS Specialist, you will be part of our Commissioning, Qualification, and Validation (CQV) team that focuses on assuring that projects are installed and operated to meet design and owner requirements. We are looking for commissioning engineers to support full building commissioning of MEP/FP systems, with specialty experience in the areas of HVAC and BAS controls.
The ideal candidate has spent 3-5 years in the BAS or HVAC equipment industry with an emphasis on field operations. The candidate is familiar with BAS system programming, configuration, field installation, and startup. Alternatively, or in addition to, has hands-on experience with various types of HVAC equipment with an understanding of equipment startup, packaged controls, and balancing.
The HVAC and BAS background will enable you to assist in troubleshooting issues, working with equipment and controls vendors, and working with testing and balancing contractors to verify system configuration and operation. Expertise in this area can also lead to assisting in specialty projects for retro-commissioning and various HVAC and BAS controls-focused efforts. You will gain experience in the commissioning of other building systems such as process utilities, piping systems, various electrical power systems, and low-voltage systems such as fire alarm and access control. You will utilize the Genesis philosophy applied to industry standard practices to plan and implement a commissioning program for a variety of different types of projects. This can include (not limited to):
  • Developing commissioning specifications
  • Reviewing project specifications and designs
  • Preparing commissioning plans and commissioning checklist documents
  • Reviewing contractor submittals and shop drawings
  • Performing field inspections of equipment and various MEP systems
  • Walking down design and vendor drawings in the field
  • Coordinating with construction managers, contractors, and vendors
  • Identifying discrepancies and updating issue logs
  • Witnessing equipment startups
  • Attending factory acceptance tests
  • Working with the mechanical and automation contractors to ensure that systems are tested as specified
  • Performing functional performance testing to ensure systems are working and performing properly
  • Coordinating with testing and balancing contractors to confirm systems are balanced properly to achieve specified flow rates, air changes and room pressurization.
  • Working with the project team to resolve issues
  • Participating in the vendor training process
  • Preparing final commissioning reports and turnover packages
Minimum Qualifications
  • Demonstrated strengths in Building Automation Systems (BAS), HVAC systems, and equipment such as Air Handling Units, laboratory room controls, central plant equipment, refrigeration systems (DX cooling), and packaged control systems.
  • BA or AS degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or related discipline, or an equivalent technical degree and experience
  • Strong computer skills, proficient with MS Office applications
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Able to commute to multiple job sites during the workweek
  • Resourceful and self-motivated.
  • Overnight travel will be required when supporting out-of-town projects
  • 3-5 years of design and/or field experience
  • Prior commissioning experience
  • Experience with some or all of the following:
  • Hands-on experience with BAS design, programming, field installation, and startup.
  • HVAC equipment with packaged control systems.
  • Central plant equipment includes chillers, boilers, and cooling towers.
  • Building Automation Systems (BAS), Emergency Power Management Systems (EPMS), and SCADA systems
  • Monitoring and automation systems, such as PLC systems
Preferred Qualifications
  • Web-based commissioning tools such as CxAlloy, BIM360, Kneat, etc.
  • Experience with Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Life Science, Healthcare, Laboratory, Telecom, or Mission Critical industries
  • OSHA safety training
  • Technical writing
  • Relevant experience in the field of construction, startup, and/or design
  • An understanding of basic cGMP requirements and good documentation practices
