Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; some after hours
Job Summary: The Network Engineer II supports the functionality and availability of enterprise-wide mission critical University networks by performing network engineering and under close supervision. Performs low- to moderate-complexity operational network management and maintenance tasks. Participate in network problem identification, analysis, and resolution for low- to moderate-complexity problems. Assists with strategy, planning, and design of the campus and wide-area networks. May provide guidance and training to entry-level network engineers.
Additional Department Summary: Supports the functionality and availability of enterprise-wide mission critical University networks by performing network engineering and administration independently or as directed. Focuses on ticket resolution, ownership of all Layer 2 switching configuration and deployment, IPAM configurations, network hardware management, inventory and surplus management.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree; OR bachelor's degree and two (2) years of network engineering experience; OR associate's degree and four (4) years of IT experience to include two (2) years of network engineering; OR high school diploma or GED and six (6) years of IT experience to include two (2) years of network engineering.
Skills and Knowledge: Broad, in-depth knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol suite, specifically relating to routing of IP packets (RIP, OSPF, EGP, BGP, PIM). Knowledge of IP data wired and wireless networks, including architecture, configuration, LAN and WAN protocols, and network security standards. Strong technical troubleshooting skills. Ability to work independently to complete goals. Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree and one (1) year of IT experience to include experience in network management and operations, performance monitoring, and security; OR bachelor's degree and three (3) years of IT experience to include experience in network management and operations, performance monitoring, and security; OR associate's degree and five (5) years of IT experience to include experience in network management and operations, performance monitoring, and security; OR high school diploma or GED and seven (7) years of IT experience to include experience in network management and operations, performance monitoring, and security.
CCNA certification. Three (3) or more years of hands-on experience with the following: Cisco Nexus switches, Cisco Catalyst switches (IOS), Cisco APs, IP address management tools, OSFP/BGP protocols, or Cisco VPN/Anyconnect.
