The role is based in our Edmonton, AB office, with hybrid work opportunities available. Occasional travel to nearby cities may be required.

AECOM Buildings + Places Canada (B+P Canada) is a dynamic, fully integrated team that brings together architecture, building engineering disciplines, economics, and asset management for design and infrastructure projects. We work on various assignments, including water, transit, municipal, commercial, institutional, justice, education, and government projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Mechanical Project Lead, responsible for design delivery and construction administration.
  • Independently complete early-stage design tasks and advance concepts through high-quality detailed design, coordinating with all disciplines.
  • Design HVAC, controls, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
  • Perform HVAC calculations and analysis using industry tools (e.g., Carrier HAP).
  • Complete engineering calculations, conduct design drawing reviews, and support field investigations.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, regulations, and client standards.
  • Write and edit mechanical specifications.
  • Conduct site visits for mechanical inspections and prepare clear, concise reports (some out-of-town travel expected).
  • Support business development, including proposal writing.
  • Prepare written reports and communicate results clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Apply working knowledge of LEED or other sustainability/green rating systems.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering plus 6+ years of experience designing HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

Preferred Requirements:

  • P.Eng. registration in Alberta (or ability to obtain).
  • 20+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong consulting engineering background.
  • Strong experience preparing project-specific technical specifications.
  • In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems (including hydronic systems) and BMS controls.
  • Design experience with plumbing and fire protection systems.
  • Experience with LEED / Net Zero design approaches.
  • Ability to obtain security clearance for government work.
