Job Overview
Net Power is looking for a highly experienced Senior Electrical Engineer Consultant. This individual will play a crucial role in integrating our novel power-generation process with industry-standard electrical solutions. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in plant wide electrical system one-line design, high-power, high-voltage motors, VFDs, transformers, generators, and electrical control systems and modeling. This individual will also have experience in supporting interconnect studies, developing and refining governor control models in collaboration with internal and external parties. They will work closely with our partners and contractors, utilizing a system engineering approach to ensure Net Power's overall product requirements are met at each electrical interface, and drive Net Power's ongoing innovation to deploy flexible, clean, baseload power generation.
This role will start as a part-time contract position working up to 20 hours per week and will be payrolled through an agency. This position has the potential to transition from part-time to direct hire.
This role can be hybrid, remote or on site at our Houston, TX office located in the energy corridor. If remote, the consultant must be open to traveling to our office in Houston, TX or to other meeting locations when necessary.
Electrical Design
  • Primary responsibility is participating, reviewing and commenting on the electrical design work that is being led by our engineering partner.
  • Develop and maintain electrical schematics for plant electrical systems including one-line, power distribution, motor control centers, switchgear, transformers, and generator in line with industry standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to specify, procure, and commission high-power and high-voltage equipment such as motors, wiring, and transformers at Net Power's projects and its demonstration facility.
  • Participate in HAZOP and design reviews to identify and mitigate electrical hazards, risks, and vulnerabilities.

Provide Project Support
  • Design and implement electrical power and control systems for process automation and safety, utilizing industry-standard protocols and technologies.
  • Conduct modeling and simulation of electrical systems using software tools such as ETAP or SKM PowerTools to analyze system performance, reliability, and safety.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on electrical engineering principles, practices, and standards to support project development and execution.
  • Review requirements and support interconnect studies to assess the impact of connecting Net Power facilities to the grid, including evaluating grid stability, power quality, reliability, and governor model development and refinement.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies and third-party consultants to ensure compliance with electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within the project team, promoting best practices, lessons learned, and knowledge sharing initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. Master's degree or equivalent experience is preferred. (Degree from an ABET accredited university).
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on plant electrical systems design, maintenance, and troubleshooting, high-power and high-voltage equipment, and control systems. Field experience is necessary.
  • Power industry or natural gas combined cycle plant experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in one-line design and electrical schematics using CAD software.
  • Extensive knowledge of high-power motors, VFDs, transformers, generators, and electrical control systems, including design, specification, and integration.
  • Familiarity with electrical testing, such as voltage and power quality testing.
  • Experience with modeling and simulation software tools such as ETAP or SKM PowerTools for electrical system analysis.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations governing electrical design, installation, and operation, such as NEC, NEMA, NERC, IEEE, ATEX, CE, CSA, and ANSI.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex electrical systems and identify practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering electrical engineering projects on time and within budget.
