Compensation Range for a Sr. Fiber Optic Technician:


  • The pay range for this position is $30.00 to $45.00 per hour

  • Shift differential pay available for night and emergency work

Position Summary:

In this position, you will perform work from a single splice point to splicing and troubleshooting large fiber networks. Our teams provide new build and maintenance services for our customers that include splicing preparation, installation, testing and repair of fiber optic cable using a variety of fusion splicing and testing equipment. Senior splicing technicians will work in a team environment and independently, be able to troubleshoot some of the most complicated networks, find and diagnose problem areas. Health and safety are a top priority for Comlink next to delivering quality products and services to our customers which means to keep you safe, you are also responsible for following all safety protocols, standards, and expectations.


Essential Functions:

  • Accurately read and interpret splicing documents, splicing engineer packets and network plan designs in preparation for each job
  • Interface with customer demonstrating the ability to discuss job requirements, foresee potential issues, provide technical advice, and troubleshoot problems
  • Plan and lead jobs from beginning to end; may provide work direction and immediate supervision of more junior fiber technicians
  • Using a fusion splicing equipment, splice fiber optic cable, single or mass fusion, in a variety of elements, indoor and outdoor
  • Follow required inspection processes and fiber testing using Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDR)
  • Analyze and prepare test results for customer presentation
  • Repair fiber optic cable as needed or required
  • Document and maintain accurate splicing records and job site notes
  • Responsible for complying with all safety standards
  • Responsible for upkeep and maintaining company vehicle, inventory, and small tools
  • Follow all administrative processes and procedures
  • Keep current with fiber optic design and splicing processes, tools, and techniques


Essential Requirements:

  • Technical degree in line work or fiber engineering or the equivalent in training and/or work experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years demonstrated splicing work experience on large fiber networks
  • Expert knowledge using Fujikura fusion splicing equipment
  • Fully proficient in ribbon splicing procedures
  • Expert knowledge using Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDR)
  • Knowledge of Google earth files
  • Knowledge of Fast Reporter software
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, SharePoint, and Excel
  • Must possess strong problem solving, decision making, analytical skills and organizational skills
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and follow written procedures
  • Ability to work from an Aerial lift truck and/or ladder
  • Ability to use light source and power meters
  • Position requires driving between work sites
  • Travel may be required
  • Must be able to respond to emergency calls outside of normal working hours
  • If hired for night shift, must be able to work from 8:00 pm - 5:00 am
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background check and drug tests as required


This position requires a combination of mobile and sedentary work with the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time, to perform work frequently in close quarters, crawl spaces, manholes, and other confined areas. The worker is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways and to perform work in a confined space. Crouching and climbing where body agility is emphasized is required on a frequent basis. Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move equipment and objects up to 75 pounds. Must be able to meet physical requirements to perform work using equipment including, but not limited to, ladders and bucket truck operating lifts. Visual acuity to perform activities related to computer work, finger dexterity for keyboarding and operating related job equipment and hand tools.
