Job description

deciBel Research has an immediate opening for a Senior Systems Engineer in Huntsville, AL.

Position Description:

The successful candidate serves as a technical lead and deputy to the Chief MBSE Architect on a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) analysis and validation effort. The Senior Systems Engineer independently leads the analysis, verification, and validation of system models - assessing modularity, interoperability, and intended-use fidelity - and mentors mid- and junior-level engineers. This role demands a strong systems-thinking mindset and the confidence to present analyses and findings to the Configuration Architecture Board (CAB) and associated governance reviews.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Leads independent analysis, verification, and validation of SysML system models for modularity, interoperability, and intended-use fidelity
  • Serves as deputy/technical lead to the Chief MBSE Architect, adhering to and reinforcing MOSA standards and configuration-management governance
  • Presents analyses, findings, and recommendations confidently to the Configuration Architecture Board (CAB) and governance reviews
  • Mentors and develops mid- and junior-level engineers in MBSE modeling, analysis, and validation practices
  • Drives the application of systems-thinking and MBSE best practices across the validation lifecycle

Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or other relevant STEM field, or equivalent, required

Experience Requirements:

  • 10+ years of professional MBSE/Systems Engineering experience
  • Demonstrated systems-thinking mindset applied across system/model lifecycles
  • Hands-on SysML modeling experience
  • Hands-on experience with Cameo (Cameo Enterprise Architecture / Systems Modeler)
  • Familiarity with Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) principles and their application in defense systems
  • Proven ability to present analyses to a review board/CAB and to mentor junior engineers

Special Skills Desired:

  • OCSMP certification or equivalent (or attainable within 30 days of hire)
  • Familiarity with Domain-Driven Design (DDD) to assess model modularity and intended-use fidelity
  • Familiarity with IBM DOORS
  • Familiarity with MATLAB, Python, and Git
  • Familiarity with Radar / RF / Missile-Defense domain (augmented by RF/Radar SME support)
