Job description

Junior AI Coding Developer, Financial Systems – Delta, BC Permanent | On-site Salary: $55,000–$75,000 base

ABOUT US

STRIVE is a specialist recruitment firm offering proactive recruitment solutions in the areas of Technology, Accounting & Finance, Corporate Administration, and Manufacturing Operations. STRIVE supports various clients from small to medium-sized enterprises to Fortune 500 organizations for their permanent, contract, and temporary recruitment needs.

THE ROLE

STRIVE Recruitment is proud to partner with a well-established British Columbia–based metals company that runs its own internal software development team to recruit for a Junior AI Coding Developer, Financial Systems based in Delta, BC. They offer a small, close-knit team environment with a modern, AI-assisted development workflow, real mentorship, and a steady, quality-first approach to building software. The culture is collaborative and people-oriented

Our client is seeking a Junior AI Coding Developer, Financial Systems, who pairs an accounting background with a coding foundation to help build and improve the accounting, financial, and BI reporting systems the business relies on. This person will work on financial logic and reporting under the guidance of an experienced team, using AI coding tools to build features while critically reviewing what those tools produce. It is a junior, mentorship-supported role with growth potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and test software features (PHP/Laravel, SQL, some JavaScript) using AI coding tools — prompting, critically reviewing, and verifying the output.
  • Work on accounting and financial logic, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and invoicing.
  • Build BI and reporting solutions — SQL reports and dashboards that give operations and finance the numbers they need.
  • Write and run tests, and perform functional QA on what you build.
  • Follow the team's review and testing process — small, reviewable changes, with quality prioritized over speed.

Qualifications

  • An accounting background is the core of this role — a degree or diploma in accounting, or solid working knowledge of debits/credits, general ledger, AP/AR, and financial statements.
  • A programming foundation in any language and a genuine drive to grow; this is a junior role, and career-changers from accounting who have started coding are encouraged to apply.
  • Genuine interest in AI-assisted and agentic coding — this is built into how the team works day to day.
  • Comfort using AI coding tools (such as Claude, Copilot, or ChatGPT) and the ability to review their output critically rather than accept it at face value.
  • Detail-oriented, disciplined, and a clear communicator in English.

Preferred Skills

  • Laravel / PHP.
  • SQL Server and T-SQL.
  • JavaScript.
  • SQL reporting / BI tools such as Power BI or SSRS.
  • Exposure to accounting software such as SAP, QuickBooks, or NetSuite.
  • Automated testing and Git.
  • English / Mandarin bilingual.

What Success Looks Like

  • You deliver accounting and reporting features that are accurate, reliable, and genuinely useful to finance and operations.
  • You use AI coding tools effectively while consistently catching errors before they reach production.
  • You grow your development skills with the team's support and become a trusted bridge between the accounting and software sides of the business.
  • You contribute to a collaborative, quality-first culture and help close the team's accounting-knowledge gap.
