What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Junior Java Developer, and why are they important?

A Junior Java Developer should have a solid understanding of Java programming, object-oriented principles, and basic software development concepts, often supported by a relevant degree or coding bootcamp. Familiarity with tools such as IntelliJ IDEA or Eclipse, version control systems like Git, and frameworks like Spring Boot is typically expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective teamwork are important soft skills in this role. Job description

Backend Engineer – Build the Core System (Early Stage)

I'm working with a fast-growing, venture-backed startup that is rebuilding a complex, real-world industry from the ground up using AI and modern backend systems.

They've already hit strong early traction and are now hiring an engineer to help define and build the platform at the center of the business.

What you'll be doing

This role sits right at the core of the company.

You'll be:

  • Building backend systems that power real-world operations

  • Owning database design and performance (PostgreSQL)
  • Working with AWS or GCP in a production environment
  • Shipping quickly and iterating on live systems
  • Integrating AI-driven workflows into core product logic

You won't be handed tickets.

You'll be expected to figure things out and build.

What they're looking for

  • Strong backend engineering experience (Python preferred)
  • Experience shipping production systems end-to-end
  • Solid understanding of system design and data modeling
  • Comfortable working across APIs, infrastructure, and data layers
  • Experience with PostgreSQL and cloud platforms (AWS or GCP)
  • Someone who takes ownership and moves without waiting

Nice to have:

  • Exposure to LLMs, RAG pipelines, or AI-driven products
  • Experience in early-stage or high-growth environments

Why this role stands out

  • You'll build systems that directly impact the business from day one
  • Real ownership of architecture and technical decisions
  • Fast-moving environment with minimal bureaucracy
  • Strong early traction and backing
  • Competitive compensation and equity
