Job description

Propak Systems Ltd. is an established leader in engineering, fabrication, and construction of gas compression, processing, and heavy oil facilities. By integrating comprehensive engineering services and first-in-class modular fabrication capacity with complete construction services, Propak designs and builds industry-leading hydrocarbon processing facilities for installation around the world. We engineer and build natural gas processing facilities, compression facilities, and heavy oil in-situ processing facilities.

We are currently looking for an Jr. Instrumentation Specialist to specify Instrumentation for a wide variety of applications, create datasheets, request quotes, and generate bill of materials (BOM). This position will provide technical support to Instrumentation peers, Engineers, and Drafters, and will be involved in bid reviews, design reviews, and technical evaluations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists with Instrument engineering and design for industrial plants and processes
  • Applies practical knowledge and develops broad based skills while contributing to the overall success of Propak’s operations through interaction with a cross functional team
  • Assists peers, engineers and others with instrumentation questions
  • Performs bid/evaluate/award process including development of Request for Quotation (RFQ) packages, bid evaluations, and Bill of Material (BOM) entry into Enterprise Resource Planning software
  • Reads and applies specifications, hookup drawings, and electrical drawings to the specification of instrumentation
  • Reads and analyzes P&IDs and line lists for generation of instrument lists
  • Prepares and maintains instrument lists
  • Creates data sheets to specify instruments
  • Requests quotes from vendors
  • Reviews and approves vendor drawings and documents
  • Interacts with Purchasing and Expediting to follow up on orders, the return of faulty equipment, and order changes
  • Works with documentation and drafting personnel to provide required documentation and drawings
  • Generates Bill of Material (BOM)
  • Assists with resolving instrument, control, and electrical technical issues
  • Views instruments and installations in the yard or shop and learns the proper installation of different instruments
  • Tracks time to jobs
  • Attends project progress meetings
  • Research Instrumentation in books, pamphlets, and on the internet

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years previous experience in the field of instrumentation
  • Experience in the oil and gas industry is considered an asset
  • Diploma in Instrumentation or Electrical Technology
  • Journeyman Red Seal certification (Instrumentation) is an asset
  • Registered with or eligible for ASET certification
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Windows XP, AutoCAD Drawing Viewer, Bluebeam &/or Adobe Acrobat Reader, Units Converter, and Flowel
