What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Junior Graphics Programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Junior Graphics Programmer, you generally need a solid understanding of computer graphics principles, proficiency in C++ or similar languages, and a relevant degree such as computer science or software engineering. Familiarity with graphics APIs like DirectX or OpenGL, shader languages (HLSL/GLSL), and version control systems like Git is typically expected. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help you stand out in collaborative development environments. These skills and qualifications are essential for creating visually compelling, high-performance graphics solutions that meet industry standards.

What does a Junior Graphics Programmer do?

A Junior Graphics Programmer is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of visual elements in software, such as video games or simulations. They typically work under the guidance of senior graphics programmers to write and optimize code for rendering graphics, implementing shaders, and ensuring efficient use of hardware resources. Their tasks may also include debugging graphics issues, learning new graphics APIs, and collaborating with other team members to achieve visual targets. This entry-level role is a great way to gain experience in computer graphics and related technologies.

What types of projects and technologies do Junior Graphics Programmers typically work on in their early career?

As a Junior Graphics Programmer, you’ll often start by supporting senior developers with tasks such as implementing rendering features, optimizing shaders, and debugging graphics pipelines. You may work with technologies like DirectX, OpenGL, or Vulkan, as well as graphics engines such as Unity or Unreal Engine. Early projects usually involve collaborating closely with artists and designers to ensure visual elements are integrated efficiently and look as intended. This role offers a great opportunity to learn best practices in real-time rendering and to develop problem-solving skills through hands-on experience with cutting-edge graphics techniques.

Job description

Overview
Apogee is seeking a GEOINT Analyst to support the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC). The GEOINT Analyst provides geospatial intelligence analysis and production in support of SMDC staff priorities, enabling situational awareness, threat understanding, and operational decision-making across space and missile defense mission sets.
The GEOINT Analyst exploits imagery and geospatial data to identify, characterize, and assess facilities, infrastructure, and activity patterns; produces GEOINT products (e.g., annotated imagery, maps, change detection, target graphics, and geospatial assessments); and maintains analytic continuity through clear documentation and repeatable methods. The analyst collaborates with all-source and INT-specific teams to refine requirements, integrate GEOINT with other intelligence streams, and deliver timely, customer-ready briefings and written products in accordance with applicable tradecraft and standards.
This is a full-time opportunity at Petterson Space Force Base (PSFB), CO.
****Contingent Upon Contract Award****
Responsibilities
  • Exploit and analyze imagery and geospatial data to support SMDC staff requirements and space/missile defense mission priorities.
  • Perform feature identification, facility/infrastructure characterization, and activity-based and change detection analysis.
  • Produce GEOINT deliverables (e.g., annotated imagery, imagery reports, maps/overlays, target graphics, and geospatial assessments) to customer standards and timelines.
  • Integrate GEOINT with other intelligence reporting to improve confidence, context, and operational relevance.
  • Maintain target/issue continuity by documenting methodology, assumptions, sourcing, and analytic judgments; update working aids and reference products.
  • Provide briefs and written products to Government leads and mission stakeholders; respond to RFIs and shifting priorities.

Qualifications
Minimum Experience:
Citizenship: Must be a US citizen
Clearance: Must have and be able to maintain a Top Secret (TS) with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) adjudication
Education: Bachelors Degree
Years of Experience: 6+ years GEOINT/IMINT experience (military, IC, or DoD contractor), including imagery exploitation and GEOINT production.
Additional Experience:
  • Proficiency exploiting commercial and/or national imagery and geospatial data to produce customer-ready products.
  • Experience with common GEOINT analysis tasks (feature identification, facility characterization, change detection, activity/trend analysis).
  • Working knowledge of GEOINT tradecraft (sourcing, accuracy, confidence statements, and documentation of assumptions/limitations).
  • Ability to communicate results clearly in written products and briefings; able to meet production timelines.

Preferred Qualifications:
Additional Experience:
  • Experience supporting an Army, Joint, or IC mission with time-sensitive production and shifting requirements (staff environment preferred).
  • Familiarity with space and missile defense problem sets (e.g., strategic systems, support infrastructure, test ranges, related military capabilities).
  • Experience using standard GEOINT tools and formats (e.g., GIS-enabled workflows, mapping/overlay creation, target graphics).
  • Experience integrating GEOINT with other INTs (SIGINT, MASINT, OSINT, all-source) and collaborating across analytic teams.
  • Relevant GEOINT training/certifications (as applicable) and experience mentoring junior analysts or leading peer review/QA.
