Job description

Kashi Clinical Laboratories (KCL) provides diagnostic testing to hospitals and clinics throughout the world. We are currently seeking an experienced Software Developer to join our team.

A Full Stack Go, T-SQL, and TypeScript Programmer for a clinical laboratory is responsible for developing, maintaining, and deploying integrated laboratory information systems that ensure efficiency, data integrity, and compliance within a clinical or healthcare environment.

Overview

The role combines backend development in Go and T-SQL with frontend development using TypeScript. The developer works with clinical data systems, including laboratory instruments, Electronic Medical Record, Laboratory Information Systems, and cloud platforms, ensuring interconnectivity, reliability, and performance. This position reports to the Director of Technology.

Location

This is a hybrid position based in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area. Candidates should reside within a reasonable commuting distance and be available to work on-site as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable existing full‑stack web applications using Go for backend logic, T‑SQL for database design and optimization, and TypeScript.
  • Develop internal APIs and integrate with external APIs and interfaces for clinical and laboratory systems interoperability.
  • Optimize laboratory data workflows by designing efficient data models, stored procedures, and ETL pipelines for patient, test, and result data.
  • Implement automated testing, CI pipelines, and deployment processes across cloud or on‑prem infrastructures.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance team to help support and advance code testing and validation processes.
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff and stakeholders to define and translate workflows into requirement specifications aligning development pipeline prioritization with business objectives.
  • Work to identify opportunities within the laboratory and operational teams to integrate instruments, disjoined systems and software applications and help develop streamlined processes promoting end‑user productivity.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare data standards, including HIPAA, CLIA, and CAP, by implementing secure and auditable code practices.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, analyze logs, and maintain high system uptime and reliability.
  • Participate in planning sessions, ability to pivot quickly within projects, and meet with multi‑department laboratory technical reviews.
  • Develop and help maintain code documentation, definitions and diagrams to ensure accurate development environment record capture.
Required Qualifications
  • S. Computer Science, Software Engineering, MIS / CIS, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5-8 years of development experience, preferably within the healthcare Industry. Knowledge of laboratory specimen process handling and workflows preferred.
  • Experience administering integration technology applications, data interchange, HL7, EDI both cloud‑based (SaaS and PaaS) and on premises in a laboratory, hospital or clinical practice setting.
  • Expertise in:
    • Backend: Go (Golang)
    • Database: Microsoft SQL Server, strong T‑SQL skills, query optimization.
    • Frontend: TypeScript.
    • Cloud platforms: Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud
  • Familiarity with containerization tools (Docker/Kubernetes) and CI.
  • Experience with development source code control systems and processes.
  • Strong understanding of current software development lifecycle and common frameworks.
  • Working knowledge of general networking concepts (DNS, TCP /IP, DHCP, FTP /SFTP, TCP/IP, switches, routers, NSA’s, WAN /LAN, PPTP /VPN, Terminal Services).
  • Strong understanding of database processing and procedures including table structure, stored procedures, structured queries, access controls, application /data layer, data export, manipulation and analytic presentation.
  • Demonstrated history of working within a collaborative software development team and supporting peers.
