Niyam is seeking an Environmental Engineer/Scientist to join our team in support of our work with a federal client. We offer competitive compensation and benefits. This Environmental Field Representative (EFR) role supports a broad range of environmental functions, including environmental compliance, policy development, regulatory analysis, environmental auditing, training development, and program implementation. The selected candidate will assist in conducting compliance audits, reviewing environmental regulations, supporting Environmental Management System (EMS) activities, and contributing to reports, plans, permits, and emergency response efforts. Candidate must be located in one of the following states: Colorado, Montana, Oregon, or Washington within close proximity to a major airport. This position will travel to a designated region.  


Roles and Responsibilities: 

  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management Program across headquarters and nationwide field locations.
  • Provide technical, analytical, and administrative support for environmental compliance, policy development, regulatory analysis, auditing, inspections, incident investigations, and recordkeeping.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of environmental policies, procedures, directives, and supporting materials (e.g., guidance documents, forms, and communications).
  • Conduct and support environmental compliance audits, including in-person, virtual, and self-assessment formats, ensuring alignment with federal, state, and client requirements, including HQ and Transfer Storage Disposable Sites (TSDF) audits.
  • Review and update environmental compliance checklists to ensure accuracy and completeness of audit activities.
  • Support the development and delivery of environmental training programs in both in-person and virtual formats. These include Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Hazardous Waste Regulations, Department of Transportation (DOT) and generator specific training.
  • Monitor and evaluate federal, state, and local environmental regulations and proposed rulemakings for potential impact to operations.
  • Provide analysis and recommendations to address regulatory changes and maintain compliance.
  • Assist in creating and distributing environmental communication and outreach materials for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support preparation and maintenance of environmental reports, plans, permits, and related documentation in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Provide support for environmental incident response activities, including reporting and coordination related to spills or leaks.
  • Assist with regulatory inspections, including those conducted by environmental agencies and fire marshals.
  • Maintain and support the client Environmental Management System (EMS) portal and related program tracking activities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance environmental performance, efficiency, and compliance outcomes.
  • Travel as required to client facilities, including airport locations across CONUS and OCONUS, to support program activities.
  • Prepare and submit routine (e.g., monthly) reports summarizing program activities, compliance status, audit results, and key performance metrics.
  • Identify, track, and communicate environmental risks, issues, and mitigation strategies to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including client personnel, contractors, and external partners, to support program objectives and ensure consistent implementation of environmental initiatives.
  • Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and coordination efforts to promote knowledge sharing, alignment, and continuous improvement.


Requirements:

  • US Citizen with ability to obtain public trust.
  • Bachelor's Degree in in Occupational Safety or Occupational Safety, Environmental Management, or Environmentally related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience in environmental work, including familiarity with hazardous materials and hazardous waste regulations. 
  • Must have the ability to work in a dynamic environment and effectively interact with numerous civilian personnel and industry partners.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Possess a high degree of originality, creativity, initiative requiring minimal supervision.
  • Ability to travel approximately 50% of the time, including frequent overnight trips to support nationwide operations.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills.


Preferred: 

  • Professional certification (i.e., Certified Industrial Hygienist or Certified Safety Professional).
