What does a junior electrical Revit do?

A Junior Electrical Revit professional assists in creating and modifying electrical system designs using Autodesk Revit software. They work under the supervision of senior engineers to produce detailed 3D models, layouts, and drawings for building projects. Their tasks often include drafting electrical schematics, updating documentation, and coordinating with other engineering disciplines to ensure accurate and efficient design integration. This role is typically an entry-level position and is ideal for those starting their career in electrical design and BIM (Building Information Modeling).

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior electrical Revit, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Junior Electrical Revit, you need a foundational understanding of electrical engineering principles and proficiency with Revit software, often supported by a relevant engineering degree or diploma. Familiarity with AutoCAD, BIM workflows, and industry standards, along with any Revit-specific certifications, is highly valuable. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective teamwork help you excel in collaborative project environments. These skills ensure accurate, efficient electrical system designs and effective communication within multidisciplinary teams, leading to successful project outcomes.

What are some common challenges a junior electrical Revit designer might face when starting out, and how can they overcome them?

Junior Electrical Revit Designers often encounter challenges such as adapting to the pace of project deadlines, mastering the intricacies of Revit software for electrical systems, and coordinating effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Overcoming these hurdles typically involves seeking mentorship from senior team members, actively participating in training sessions, and consistently practicing modeling techniques. Regular communication with colleagues—especially in architecture and mechanical disciplines—also helps ensure that electrical designs are well-integrated and meet project requirements.

What is the difference between Junior Electrical Revit vs Electrical Drafter?

AspectJunior Electrical RevitElectrical Drafter
CredentialsTypically requires an associate degree or technical certification in electrical design or Revit softwareUsually holds a diploma or certificate in drafting or electrical design
Work EnvironmentDesign firms, engineering companies, construction projects using Revit softwareArchitectural and engineering firms, construction sites, drafting departments
ResponsibilitiesCreating electrical models, collaborating on design development, using Revit for 3D modelingPreparing electrical drawings, drafting plans, and details based on specifications

Junior Electrical Revit professionals focus on creating detailed 3D electrical models using Revit, often working closely with engineers. Electrical Drafters primarily prepare 2D electrical drawings and plans. While both roles require knowledge of electrical systems, Junior Electrical Revit roles emphasize Revit software skills, whereas Electrical Drafters focus on traditional drafting techniques.

Job description

BLOX is creating the tools to convert a resistant Architecture Engineering and Construction Industry

into a smart and efficient machine. For those motivated to play a part in that change, this is an

exciting time at BLOX. In short, BLOX takes the most complicated parts of a hospital – headwalls,

surgery ceilings, MEP racks, Central Energy Plants, exam rooms, bathrooms, etc. - designs them so

that they can be removed from conventional construction, manufactures them as modules,

transports and inserts them into the construction process to yield higher quality buildings that open

significantly faster than those conventionally constructed. BLOX is both service and product that

includes architecture, engineering, manufacturing, logistics and construction.

BLOX is looking for a talented, energetic Electrical Engineer to boost the Mechanical Electrical

plumbing (MEP) team. This team is delivering a host of new buildings in multiple states for major

healthcare clients. These buildings are designed, manufactured in sophisticated modular

components and assembled on site for higher speed to market and superior quality at lower cost,

with modern design aesthetics.

As an Electrical Engineer, you will work with the MEP team in a dynamic, rapid-growth work

environment with a group of bright, talented engineers, architects, designers, builders, craftsmen

and manufacturers. You will be challenged to develop your skills in a new field, taking a lead role in

project delivery via the DMC methodology.

Responsibilities and tasks include:

  • Design facility Electrical systems to meet client’s requirements in projects.
  • Perform facility Electrical distribution system and equipment design for a wide range of projects, and collaborate with team engineers, architects, and detailers as needed to model elements into a cohesive facility model.
  • Perform calculations, studies, and analysis of Electrical systems and equipment to create design solutions. Specific forms of analysis include power distribution system load, circuit and element sizing, overcurrent protective device selective coordination, and illumination.
  • Layout of communications and alarm systems (e.g. fire alarm) and design of system single-line diagrams.
  • Support production of projects including manufacturing design, computer modeling, and detailing of manufacturing and construction work scopes.
  • Generate and maintain models used to create project permitting documents, manufacturing drawings and field shop drawings.
  • Perform quality checks on their own work and participate in project-wide quality reviews of the design and drawings. Produce design in compliance with national and local codes and regulations.
  • Collaborate with installers in manufacturing and construction to improve quality, flow and efficiency of implementation of the design.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and vendors in developing specifications of the design and selection of equipment used in the facility systems.

Required Job Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Architectural Engineering
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling and design software, esp. Revit
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Punctual and able to meet deadlines
  • Conscientious and quality-oriented

Preferred:

  • FE (NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering, EIT Engineer-in-training) on path to professional licensure
  • Familiarity with facility electrical system analysis
  • Familiarity with electrical codes and regulations e.g. National Electrical Code

Benefits:

  • BLOX offers the full spectrum of comprehensive benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • We also offer flexible spending accounts, paid time off, short term disability, long term disability, life insurance and a 401k plan.

It is the policy of BLOX LLC to use ability and willingness to contribute to our team effort as the criteria for making employment related decisions, regardless of an individual’s race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or other protected status. In addition, we strictly prohibit the harassment of any employee because of his/her race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation and gender identity), disability, or other protected status.
