Job description

Eaton's IS AER ITD division is currently seeking a Aerospace Design Engineering Specialist - Interconnect Products. This position can be located at either our Camarillo, CA or City of Industry, CA facilities. Relocation benefits will be provided within the United States only.
The Design Engineering Product Specialist serves as a technical expert within the Eaton Interconnect Technologies Division. This individual may focus on internal research and development (e.g. new technology), new product development, sustaining engineering, product manufacturing transitions (e.g. facility transfers), and new business proposals. In this role, you will serve in an advisory role to upper management at Eaton as well as to customers, industry groups, and suppliers. This specific design engineering specialist role will focus on military/commercial electrical wiring system components including connectors, backshells/connector accessories, conduit assemblies, and cable assemblies.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $129000 - $190000 a year.

What you'll do:
• Provide technical oversight to teams in the design/analysis/test of electrical wiring interconnect system (EWIS) components used in aerospace, industrial, and military applications, including electrical connectors, backshells, conduits, and cable assemblies.
• Drive product line leadership around change management through engineering Change Orders (CO's), leveraging Eaton's Product Lifecycle Management system (Enovia).
• Review and provide feedback on all engineering deliverables to the product engineering team.
• Guide program teams (IPT's) in effective requirements management at all stages of program/product lifecycle.
• Provide direct technical support to customers, suppliers, internal manufacturing engineers, and internal sales and marketing teams.
• Provide effective mentorship of junior engineers, and coaches cross-functional teams where appropriate.
• Lead, or coach others engaged in, Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations. Determine and lead implementation of corrective actions.
• Lead, or coach others engaged in MRB review of discrepant hardware and functional assessment.
• Lead team in the application of Aerospace Common Engineering standards (ACES) on all projects within the framework of Eaton's program management process, PROLaunch. Contribute to continuous improvement of ACES specifications.
• Support the assessment of jurisdiction and classification of hardware and technical data in accordance with US Government ITAR and EAR regulations.
• Attend and lead activities within industry group committees on interconnect products.
Qualifications:
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Materials Science, or other related engineering field from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of five (5) years of product engineering experience in interconnect product development, analysis, and test (electrical connectors and associate components, cable harnesses, and conduit assemblies).
• Experience leading engineering programs requiring delegation of tasks to, and coaching of, peers or junior engineers.
• Experience leading and effectively resolving failure investigations through use of formal problem solving tools such as 8 Disciplines (8D) or RedX. Experience presenting to technical leadership inside and outside of his/her business on these investigations.
• Experience leading product qualification programs for mechanical and/or electrical products.
• Experience in directing structure, design, and authoring of compliance matrices and test plans/procedures/reports (validation and verification test plans and procedures).

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Materials, or Systems Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of ten (10) years experience in aerospace product engineering, and specifically in interconnect technologies and products (electrical connectors and associate components, cable harnesses, and conduit assemblies).
• Experience using Enovia Product Life Cycle Management (PLM) software and Solidworks CAD software.
• Experience supporting product launches in Low Cost Country/Best Cost Country (LCC/BCC) locations (ex. Mexico, China, Morocco, Caribbean).
• Experience in product launches in US manufacturing locations.
• Design for Six Sigma (DFSS/SSDD) and/or Green Belt certification.
Additional Information:
• Strong knowledge of materials science for metals, polymers, ceramics, and glass and graphite composites used in interconnect products.
• Strong knowledge of materials science for conductive/corrosion inhibiting coatings and platings for interconnect products.
• Ability to interpret and generate 3D CAD models and drawings in line with ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
• Knowledge of CN/CO (engineering Change Order or Change Notification) processes for change management.
• Proficiency in Product Data Management or Product Life-Cycle Management (PDM/PLM) systems for document control and workflow management.
• Ability to complete basic engineering calculations for sizing and design of mechanical components.
• Ability to interpret Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to understand inputs, boundary conditions and failure modes of mechanical components.
